Looking at a car alarm, need some help...

Well, basically I'm moving to a less than idyllic city known as Everett where car prowling is very high.

My apartment will have a "restricted access" underground garage, but apparently they've been having problems with car prowlers breaking windows and stealing radios, walking off with rims and tires, etc.

I just picked up tire locks, which will hopefully help a bit, but I would also like to get an alarm system.

I'm looking at getting a system that has a 2-way with really good range. It's not that I'm far from my car, but there is probably a foot of concrete between me and my baby. Even though I'm in the same building, I am worried that the signal won't get through the concrete. Apparently the current systems by DEI (Clifford, Viper, etc.) with 2-way have pretty **** poor range.

My question is two-fold:

1. Any recommendation on units with good range? I've heard CompuStar has great range with it's spread spectrum technology, but battery life is low.
2. Would anyone with a 2-way (or anyone that knows someone with a 2-way) be able to come to my future apartment in Everett to see if it has the range necessary? I'd be willing to buy you dinner for your time, or maybe you'd just like to help a fellow Evo owner out

Sorry for the long thread. I'm really paranoid about something happening to my car while I live there.

** Great Alarm For The Evo**

I Would Say Any Compustar Is Great. There One Of The Only Companies That Are Legal To Put An Remote Start Pager Alarm On A Stick Due To Their Reliability. But, Another Excellent Product Is The Viper 791xv. I Got It On My Car And I Love It. And You Can Get One For Cheap On Ebay. Good Luck!

/\ the 791xv is a great unit...the only issue is the range....especially if your car is going to be in a underground garage

Anyone have any links to the specs on the 791xv? I don't see it on the Viper website...

I have compustar 2w900fmr and it has really good range, also the battery is a single AAA with battery level warning on the display, battery will last you 3-4 months.

with starter kill, door locks, hood and trunk pins, battery backup siren and electronic tilt sensor it was around $700 installed. without backup siren and tilt probably a little more than $500 installed. this is at systems unlimited in bellevue.

Honestly I have had experience with compustar and don't care much for it. The range was ok, but I chose viper instead. I picked up the remote start, two way and tilt sensor. I'm not too big of a fan of the tilt sensor, but the remote start and two way are awesome. The range's good; about 1000 ft or so.

I just took mine out because I'm selling my car. If you're interested drop me a line and we can work something out with a good price.
