Lost my Vortex Generator yesterday!

So my friend is driving the EVO, & we hit about 80 on I-5N by the T-dome, and
all of a sudden we hear a big BOOM, the vortex generator blows off & pulled out the
rear window trim.

There no shoulder where it happened, so I didn't go back to see if I can find it.

I'm a bit pissed, the trim went right back in, but has anyone else had this happen?
Looks like I'll have to buy another one.

Anyone know a cheap place to get a CF one?

Sorry to hear about that. I don't think you're going to be able to find a place that sells CF VG for cheap.

This is the first time hearing this but I did have a friend that had his CF eye lids blow off.

Well that sucks! Was this the original OEM VG or one of the other brands? How long have you had it on? I've had mine on for over a year with no issues as of yet.

I have a CF one that I never installed. Wasn't super impressed with the way it's supposed to mount.

OEM one latches to both side trims as well as having 2 sets of what seems to be industrial strength double sided tape to attach to the roof itself. Wonder if maybe because its AM is the problem oh well.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I had on there, it mounted under the roof moldings, & has tape on it. Half the tape was on the car & half went with the VG.

The car is not a MR, so no warranty on it.

It did pull the moldings off the car & they were flapping away in the wind. The sound alone was scary!

I think it was a combo of me washing the car that day, the cold, & lastly the really bad Fog. Just goes to show that there is a very high pressure on that part of the car!

I'm going to get another one, it would be nice if the CF ones were not $300! There are a couple on eBay for under $100 shipped, some as low as $40, but with $40 shipping, WTF?

The next one will have double the tape, on it.

Yeah but the ones on Ebay are "cf look" not real cf if you really care about that. If its less then $170 its not going to be real cf unless you get reeeeeeeeal lucky.

This happened to me a few weeks back. Fortunately I have an MR so it is covered under warrranty. I still don't know why the dealer wants the car for 2 days to repair it, but that's another story.

Mine snapped in half, with the passenger side remaining solidly in place. The big problem is if the front doesn't stay stuck down well, it can catch the air underneath and work its way off.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your car. I will definitely be checking to make sure my factory VG is held down very tightly on the front so this doesn't happen. Thanks for the heads up.
