buying parts online or local shops?

wassup everyone, just wanted to know if you guys are purchasing parts for your evo at local shops or getting it online. its less of a hassle for me to have a shop ordering it then taking my car down there to get istalled. just dont have the time to do it at home. just need some inputs and a good shop to order from.

Just depends on what you can get locally and what it costs. If you know what you want and know how to install it then online is usually cheaper.

Seems like local shops are less willing to compete with other vendors. The only one I found willing to price match was HPF. WorldOne couldnt even get me a price on a fuel pump...they hooked me up back when I was buying subaru parts, but for the EVO ??? Axiom or HPF (if its instock) for local.

I usually try first to find the cheapest price I can online. But except for my buschur licp and dynoflash, I've bought every performance part I have at Axiom. Funny thing is they've been able to sell me those parts for as cheap as I've found them online.

yeah you should buy the parts on your own because the shop my charge you more then a price you can get online from shopping around.

Online is always the best. Shops say they cut you a deal, but it still will end up prolly a few bucks more then somewhere online. Cause everyone wants a profit. I would say that shops could offer you an overstock discount to get rid of parts but online places do the same. Bring in a printout of something you saw for a good price online and take it to a shop, if they can beat the price with the shipping, then buy it. Most of the time they'll look at you like you're stupid or give you some off the wall story why you should pay more and buy it through them. Though if the shop gives you a deal on the part and installation (if you don't know how to install it) that beats buying it online and taking it to another shop.. go for that.

Only problem with buying locally is paying the tax.

I got a Beatrush Undertray from World One and it was a great price. Still ended up saving money over buying it online and I didn't need to pay shipping!

Well I mean you can work it out right.

If local price + tax < online price + shipping then buy local and vice-versa .

Thats what I do . To be fair some of the online shop's smallest warehouse is probably larger than all of the NW shops total square footage combined so its often hard for our local shops to compete on price. Where they win out for sure is installation .

Buy parts from the cheapest place you can find them. Remember to factor in the cost of tax or shipping depending on where you're buying it. You can get into contact with Ben at HorsePower Freaks; he's a good guy with good service.

Remember everything is cheaper online. You just have to deal with the "internet rip off factor" If you buy from a reputable place and something is wrong with the part they will replace it for free. Better than saving $10 bucks to me....

The other thing to consider is the support you may need with a given product. A local shop may cost a bit more, but if you need to drop in and get some advice on your product (or other aspects of a build) as many people do, then spending your money locally may be a wise investment. I know we offer a lot of support to our customers (as I am sure TorqueFreaks does as well) and it is a bit of a slap in the face when people come in wanting the same support after they purchased online to save a couple bucks. Just my $.02
