HiPortland newbie checking in

Hi, new on here, first post.

I bought a silver 06 mr with Borla catback, greddy bov, and injen intake and downtube about a month ago from a small used car dealership in Hillsboro (called Carz2day and yes, I know how bad that sounds)

So far, car has been great. First awd sports car and I love it.

Anywho, was hoping to intro myself. I'm Eric. Lived in Portland 3 years, love it. Used to get my speed fix with an rc51, but decided cars are safer...maybe a little anyway. I don't know much at all about mods or modding or tuning, but I've been trying to learn by going over posts on here.

Was hoping I could ask a couple of questions:

Anyone know anything about this car?

I don't plan on doing any other mods, but am wondering if it is modded to the point where it would be smart to get it professionally tuned. I don't know if it already has been or not. Engine runs fine with an occasional low reving at a red light when its still warming up...but I read something about that here and it doesn't sound like a big deal.

With these mods, do you think the Mitsu dealer in Beaverton would cover warranty issues if I have them?

What kind of HP do you think I'd be getting with these mods?

Thanks for any help, and I look forward to maybe meeting some of you at some point!

Eric

-Have Lucas at English Racing take a look at it and help you with tuning ( He knows his shiz bout Mitsu's).
-Go to Torquefreaks and dyno it to get your HP and TQ.

And good luck with getting anything done at Beaverton Mitsu. They put in their notes that I have Nitrous...close! but no. The guy was an idiot. Some people on here have gotten one of the guys there to fix things under warranty. Look up "Beaverton Mitsubishi" in the search engine and you'll get a better idea. Searching for info is definatly the best idea cuz people will give you a hard time about it. Especially the ones that don't drive their Evo's in the rain and give everyone else who drives theirs like it's a car, a hard time.

Welcome to the board.

Go to the dealer at your own risk.. I went to town and country mitsubishi and they saw my boost controller and that i had not cat, so the district manager or whoever he is decided to void my WHOLE warranty not just powertrain. The guy that was doing all the paper work for me also told me that everytime they get a evo in, they red flag it.. Not 100% sure what it means but something to do with checking the car in and out before doing any kind of warranty work. I'm very dissapointed with mitsu

Hi Zoom, thanks for the welcome. I did read alot about warranties at BM before posting, and what I found was most people felt they'd honor warranties on lightly modded cars...I'm wondering if my mods qualify me for lightly modded...I would guess they might.

When I bought mine they said an intake was fine and if you only have a catback I think that's ok too as far as warranty goes. I don't know about the whole BOV and downpipe thing. You could always call Beaverton lol, but as xball said, at your own risk! Don't give them your vin or anything.

1. A thing to keep in mind about Mitsu dealers is they have knowledge about how easy it is to flash cars. There solution is to flash them back to stock pretty much anytime a car is in just to be "safe". This is not secondhand this comes straight from a Mitsu Master Tech.

2. Mitsu Warranty isnt even good enough to poo paper.

3. Lucas is who you wanna go to in your area.

4. Try to find a stock airbox or have someone log your fuel trims and reflash your car because of the "CAI". They wreak havoc on the MAF and can cause alternating lean and rich spots through the powerband. Torque freaks has dyno'd Stock IX's that made 260whp, so you might be a little higher than that on their dyno. Honestly unless its a group dyno day (and therefore cheaper) dynos are generally a waste of time except for tuning combos. As basic as your bolt ons are its not really needed other than for the bragging rights. Your money is best spent on tuning and other "needs".

HI, welcome. If you have Evo 9 and those mods you listed your power can range from 280+330HP depending on the tune. +1 what zoom said about getting it on the dyno to check if its tuned. It is possible that it has been.
Also on mitsu, with just those basic mods i had full warantee @ beav mitsu. Talk to andy there he is a thech and Jack is service manager. I been nice to them, they been nice with my car. LOL they try to figue why their computer would not read anything (i didnt tell i had AEM)

I saw that car in hillsboro!! it was in really good condition. Just get a TBE,boost controler intake and a flash and you will get about 330 whp and 347 with race gas. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome! Mitsu warranty sucks though. Mine was flagged because I have modded my car. At the time it was only a catback exhaust. Don't go to Delon in Salem whatever you do.

Thanks everyone...

I think I saw a glossary someplace on here, so when I figure out what all those acronyms mean and I'll get back to you with a more intelligent reponse.

Welcome to PDX!
If you want to figure out if your car is tuned, you dont need to go waste money on a dyno. I can just read your ECU and tell you if its tuned or not. Like John said, get a stock airbox on that thing if you can and just put the K&N air filter on. The after market intakes cause some serious MAF (Mass Air Flow) fluctuations that make the car unhappy.

As far as warranty, Beaverton Mitsubishi has been good to me so far. Just work with Jack Ogden. Unfortunately, they were doing too much warranty work in Mitsu's eyes, so now they need to get approval for all warranty work from the Mitsu regional manager. And he only shows up about once a month. As long as you dont go in there screaming like a little child and you are reasonable, then you will be fine.

Interesting about the "go back to stock air box." Is it really that difficult to get an aftermarket intake to play nice? Is there no advantage to aftermarket intake that would make it worthwhile to keep it and figure out the a/f issue it causes?

I'm going to the Dyno Day this weekend, so hoping they can tell me what's been done, and what I might be able to do to even out the a/f mix if it's off.

thanks again for the info!
