Exedy Twin Plate Clutch HD

Hey All,

I just put the Exedy Twin Plate Clutch HD in my car, and man. Its really an awesome clutch. You pick up a lot of additional noise, but its not loud. Its on the same level as the motor noise, but it sounds like lifter chatter when you first here it.

Speed Concept has a bunch of these things in stock right now for $1300, which is cheap for that clutch. Cheapest I could find it online was $1580. The install is $425 at clutch doctors in Beaverton. They do great work and this is the third clutch install I have had them do, no not all on the evo Just thought I would share.

The clutch comes with a Chromoly lightened fly wheel, but no throw out bearing. So you will have to get that throw out bearing before you can install.

Can't remember the vendor but there is a vendor online that is selling the Exedy Twin Disc HDs for like $1100. But yes 1300 is a good deal.

Wow...$425 I heard it was upwards up $600 to $700 at other shops. How was the turn around time on the install, they finish it the same day.

yeah, they always do. They usually only take about 3 hours to do a clutch on the Evo. I know of at least 15 Evo's that they have done for sure, but they may have done more. Erik, the manager at the shop, is a real cool guy, and very easy to talk too.

Ok, you can do that. Thats what forums are for. Or you can call Erik at Clutchdoctors and he'll tell you its a 3 to 4 hour job. Just because you cant do it in the same time, because you lack the knowledge that someone that does clutches all day has, doesnt mean its impossible. They do after all hold the record for a clutch change in a civic at 27 minutes. Granted, a clutch install on an Evo is no picnic. You have to remove a ton of stuff, just look at the Evo Moto thread.

Actually, this reminds me of the time everyone on the Mini forums said it was impossible to change the crankshaft pully without pulling the motor. Yet, some guy in Colorado shows up at a Mini event with a piece of wood and a jack and shows everyone how to do it without pulling the entire motor. And this was after 2 months of everyone calling him a liar etc etc etc. I guess what I am trying to say is that unless you can unequivocally prove that its not possible, well you get my point.

Eriks number is:
503-626-4810 and dont forget to shut your pie hole when he gives you the answer

haha wasnt being defensive, just being playful. Words on a screen are so easy to take the wrong way. I dont mean to sound like an ****, just dont like being called a liar I guess. And its hard to disprove something I have seen. And um, apology accepted

A clutch job on an Evo in 3hrs is stupid fast.

Book calls for about 9hrs and Ive mostly seen and heard them being done between 5-8hrs.

Yeah the book time is crazy long, which is what most shops quote. Im with ya man, when Erik said it would take 3 to 4 hours to do I didnt believe him. So I sat and watched them do it with my eye on the clock. I was convinced he couldnt do it. Yet 3 hours and 30min later it was done. He even got new diff and tranny fluids in for me in the process. They have some tricks for doing this stuff that are pretty fancy, but I dont do a whole lot of clutch installs. In fact, I wont do any because I dont have a lift I know there are a couple of other guys that got their clutches done there in a timely manner, just not sure what their screen names are.

Not to go OT or anything but does anybody know what Lucas over at English Racing charges. Just trying to compare prices, $425 seems like a steal to me for a clutch job on an Evo.

An answer is as easy as a PM to Lucas.
