My solution - the rear wheel drive evo!
Yeah it comes down to inertia, parasitic drag, etc etc... rotational mass on a AWD drive system means there's a lot of rotation that must accellerate along with getting that power to the ground. The less you have = more power going to the ground. A highly effecient FWD car will have around a 20% loss of power from the wheels to the crankshaft. Some AWD/4WD designs will have as much as a 50% loss. I don't know what an Evo's is though, and I'd love to know.
Other than the balance issues of weight not being properly distributed for a RWD design, I would imagine a RWD Evo would be a lot like a TT Supra or 300Z from the days, just a bit lighter. Same amount of power. But like the write up said, the Evo was never meant to be a RWD, so weight transfer would be miserable. You'd probably have to soften the rear so much to get the tires to plant that corners would be scary. Not to mention 300 bhp going thru the rear driveline that was originally rated to take 150bhp. It just seems.... wrong.... There's other RWD platforms that would make a much better car for RWD than taking a perfectly good AWD designed car and butchering it.
It's like, I've seen people wedge a 396 into a VW Rabbit, but the impeding question arises... why?

Well if you had a true Rwd Evo it would be a tad faster on the Freeway. The way we would make a AWD Rwd would still leave the same amount of spinning components.
I dont feel there is to much of a drive train loss from AWD to RWD since both still have to use a rear end and drive line. FWD has the least drive train loss. As far as % of loss I feel its more like X hp loss. I dont think our EVOs are are anymore then 20% loss.

what would have been awesome is if we could've done what skyline GTR's can
Know someone with an R32GTR here..it uses a jim wolf ecu...launches with AWD and then RWD kicks in probably after 2nd gear or so

actually, we can do this. if you want to spend the $8,000 for a motec differential controller
The real question is why did you dig up a 2 year old thread?

And its called Multi-Quote

Anyhoo....
This is another NON 4G63 RWD evo:
