Charity drive December 13'th
Charity drive December 13'th
Carfreeks is having a charity drive to Goldendale, Wa. We would like to invite everyone in all the Northwest clubs and forums. Goldendale is a poor small town that could use our help donating food, clothing, furniture, etc. The aluminum plant closed down some time ago that employed 700 people in a town that the population is 3000. So jobs are very hard to find there. Please bring at at least two cans of food or more. We will meet at the lower JC Penny parking lot at the Vancouver mall at around 9:00am and leaving at 10:00 sharp. If you are from the south you can meet up with some of us at the Kmart on Mission St in Salem at 7:00am and leave at 7:30 sharp. Here is a quote from an e-mail received about the charity. Please remember though that is is a charity drive, so please drive responsible. Please pass this to other forums you belong to. Goldendale is thinking about closing off the street for us to park. So lets have a fun drive and help out.
If you want any more info you can contact me at jaymzz@carfreeks.net
This is for a great cause. Everyone from Carfreeks hopes to see you there.
"Here's what I do here.
I was allowed to run a second hand store here since June.
It's a funky little place that sells used furniture, kitchen ware, a
little of this and that but the main purpose of the store is to help
this community which is a very poor community with little to no work.
Out of the store we help families that need things like food, clothes,
help them find work. In October we gave away 500 pounds of produce
from the store that fifteen of us picked and dug on an 8000 ranch
outside of Goldendale. It was gone in three hours. Before school
started, we gave 21 kids clothes that would not have had any to wear.
We've helped with beds for kids, paid partial rent for two families that
had fires and nowhere to go. No one gets paid at the store as we are
all volunteers. Right now we are having a canned food drive, collecting
food for families. It's great that some can get a food basket for a
dinner at Christmas but what the hell do they eat the next day and the
next? We are trying to make sure no one goes hungry all year long.
Here's our simple web site that has not been up-dated for awhile cause
yours truly has been too busy to do it.

If you have anything you would like to donate to the store, we'd gladly
take it. Things we always need:
Small, clean couches and dressers. Microwaves, kids bicycles, small book
shelves. good pots and pans, any kind of tools.”

James I'm really glad you are fronting something like this. I would love to attend; but money is tight. If I can't make it; then I'll at least show up at the mall and give some food and then bid you guys a safe journey. Hopefully considering this is the same weekend as the Toy Run in Seattle, you will still have a great turnout.
Thanks. I am hoping to have a good turnout. We wanted to to a charity event, and one of the members on Carfreeks brought up a good point that it is the small charities that are suffering through the slow economy. That is why we picked this one. The Goldendale police are going to shut down the main road for a while for us. That is how excited they are. Hope to see you there. The more the better.
Sweet the more the better! My work is donating some food, and Carfreeks is donating some food also. Goldendale told us that they are having there parade later that day and we are all invited to stay for it also.
