I got 40k on mine with 350+whp for over 35k miles and more than a few track events and it still shifts like new. For a monster track car i wouldn't buy an mr but for a dual mode mild track/daily car i love my 6sp. Much nicer cruising down the highway and i can say it can do 175mph

I bought my car brand new, the MR option cost another $7k over the IX, so yeah, I took my pocketbook into consideration.

Yea 7k is alot. Now though its really only about 1-2k more over a GSR. I personally wanted a GG SE but my car was almost new in Cali so I couldn't pass it up. I think the SE is probably the best off all the worlds but the MR does retain its value slightly better and I do prefer 6 gears over 5. Thats the reason I didn't buy the X honestly, and that MR tranny has its own set of limitations.

Weaker... Prove it!!!

I paid the extra $$$ for an MR due to the fact that it's quieter when rollin down the freeway, is more rare, and the interior MR badge alone makes it worth the extra $.

For that, I'd offer $20k and wouldn't pay more then $23k.

Talk to Voidhawk, I believe he's broken his a couple of times with 400+ WHP. In my recollection, 3rd and 4th are actually thinner to save tranny case size so they are the first to go under high hp applications.

I have 300+ WHP (depending on the dyno depends on the number, heh) and 82k miles. The car has been with the same mods since well before 20k. However I never track my car (stock clutch lasted to 75k, and even then the pressure plate was what was causing issues) and the tranny is still pretty smooth.

I want to say Caesar was kidding, but I'm not sure.

I'm on my stock clutch/tranny at 33k miles and hoping they'll continue to last. I don't do many drops or tracking either, so I'm hoping for the best. That said, I'm close to 400whp and will soon be over so we'll see.

Other than being cheap, does anyone know why Mitsu decided against a larger transmission housing for the extra gear? I'm guessing it was simply to save money (r&d, parts, etc.) by going with the same housing. I mean it makes sense understanding how few of these are on the road, why do another part for such a small amount.

1st-3rd are thicker gears. 4th is the thinnest and it goes from heat not horsepower. Alot of that can be prevented with better tranny fluid imo. I don't really launch mine either although my clutch is giving up the gusto after 40k miles of 120whp over stock, I knew it was a ticking time bomb. I suppose the hardcore road racers eventually burn up the tranny but for 98% of the people an MR is plenty strong. There are more cases of 5sp synchro problems than MR's that have blown.

If you have the time, energy and resources take a look at mine....

Only catch is the transaction would have to be completed by this weekend or I'll keep it and fix it sometime next year.
