GSC S1 camshafts question?

Just a quick question, I tried the search and only found results from these cams.
My question is, do these cams significantly decrease gas mileage? This is considering mild mods: intake, turbo back exhaust, o2 housing and licp. I know its an Evo and who really cares about gas with these cars anyway but I here some say it will kill gas mileage and some say it decreases it a little? I figured with more air let in=more fuel gets used to create the power gains right? Accentually helping the motor breathe better?

It might have decreased mine 1-2mpg but nothing you would really notice. I love the cams though. Although I wish I would of got the S2's because I plan on going with a bigger build down the road. But S1's are perfect for a bolt on/daily driver.

I don't know about the GSCs personally as I went with the Cosi M2s. What I can tell you is that with everything done to my car + tune I'm getting better gas mileage now than stock. Of course, I don't get on it constantly, which I'm sure helps.

The S1s are a waste. Get the S2s. You may loose some mpg but the power you will get from the cams will make up for the small bit of gas lost... lol

When making choices such as these, it's important to think long term. What do you plan on doing with the car? I stuck with the S1s because I didn't want to lose much low end torque. Granted, you probably won't lose much going with an S2, but from the research I did you do lose a bit. I've AutoX the car a few times so having that low end torque kick in a little sooner definitely helps. However, if you plan on tracking or dragging the car, then yeah, go with something bigger. Also, I've read a few posts where there were some issues with these cams; whether it was the Kelfords or the GSC series I don't recall, but I guess they're all made by the same company. I'm sure if I've misspoken someone here will correct me, but that's what I recall reading/hearing.

To answer your question: it all depends on how you drive. I noticed a little decrease in MPG, but I don't drive like Jake!!!

I disagree. If you plan to stay on the stock turbo, I think the S1's are great. It really helps in the lower RPM's.

Jake i am not sure what you are disagreeing with? The s1's are great on a stock turbo.... but so are s2's and they will net you more hp. Both are great options.... it just depends on what powerband you are looking for

This is what I am disagreeing with.

But I totally agree that the S2's are also a great option, and probably better for some. Like you said, just depends on the powerband.

thanks for all the input guys, it has helped tremendously

I will have to keep thinking more about which setup I want. I would like to entertain the idea of 400whp and the s2's seem would get me there faster, but I have always been more of a road course type guy so I'm thinking that the S1's might be more up my alley with power more toward the bottom to midrange vs. up top. An FP RED would be awesome as a goal but maybe not for me after all.

If you are thinking about a FP RED I would defiantly go with the S2's. Actually, if you are shooting to break 400whp or be around 400whp on a stock, or stock appearing turbo, I would go with the S2's because it will be just that much easier. I have S1's and bolt ons and I made 371whp (not bad for stock turbo/pump gas), but if I would of went of S2's I might of been able to to beat that 380whp mark I wanted. But my car will be going to ER for a tranny rebuild/clutch job, and hopefully a FP Red real soon

Freddie, are those results from the S1 or S2 cams? sounds interesting.

you are correct, He bought those cams off me right after Mikes car make 450 and we didn't want to go any higher. They are great cams, we might even end up buying another set of them.
