Question Looking to get myself X MR and need info !!!

I've owned Lancer Evolution IX for almost 2 years and loved it every minute of it (exept exhaust noise). I want to continue beeing part of Evolution family and looking to get myself X MR. The reason I'm starting this thread so I get an idea of what you guys in NW and elsewhere, whoever owning X MR and not, can share cons and pros or problems about your cars. Detailed info is very much appreciated.

any information will help me with consideration of this vehicle.

Why don't you ask the couple guys that have the X MR (I think Keith and Migs both do) and some of the peeps that have the X (miss_vtec and I know there are some others). And of course, get that test drive scheduled with someone!

BTW - the 2 with the X MRs are very useful for info in this particular case seeing that one of them still has an VIII and the other just recently sold his (IX, I believe?)

We'll hook up when you get a chance Igor. You can take it for a spin so you'll get a feel for it. Plus I can answer any questions you will have.

But I can tell you a little bit about why I bought the MR vs. a GSR. I bought the car because of the SST. I wanted paddle shifters since the beginning of time but it was finally made for something that I love. An Evo! The SST is by far the most special part about the car. Yes it has its limits, but if you are aware of it and drive the car and build it accordingly, let me tell you, that tranny is pretty cool!

I do a lot of track days, and I can tell you with 100% certainty, that I cannot manually heel toe and down shift as fast as the SST can do. I don't think it is possible. The downshift speed is amazing, not to mention the rev match is so spot on, I tend to leave it in sport mode and let it do its thing more so than manual shift it. In fact the only time I use the paddles is when I want to punch it hard on the accelerator. Lets say you are in 5th gear in automatic mode, and decide you want to mash on the gas. There is a little bit of a delay for the car to realize you want power now so it takes a split second to go from 5th to say like 2nd or 3rd. So in that case when I want to punch it from a higher gear, I immediately blip down two gears and roll. Otherwise, I leave in in auto for the most part.

The BBS's rock. The GPS navigation, stereo system, blue tooth for your phone. It's an awesome car. Totally comfortable, good styling. It makes a great daily driver with a touch of sportiness. And don't forget the handling. The X overall is a heavier car. Being heavier, it slows it down some but it also keeps the car much more stable than the 8. It's not tail end happy and it hugs the corners very very well. The MR Bilstein's are lovely. I have no complaints about how the car handles at all. My only beef is I wish it was faster out of the box from the factory. But that can be remedied in time when mods start to happen. Hope this helps!

I love mine. its so much more easy to live with than my old IX RS. and it makes great power with just a few mods and takes to boost and timing better than IX's and VIII's on pump. I'm running 26psi and 22 degrees timing advance @7000 all on 91 octane with no knock. (these are typically race gas #'s on a 4g63 evo) I have about 40k on mine now and cant stop driving the thing. which is something I couldnt say about my IX.

Do you plan to track it or heavily mod it? If you just want a bolt on car to have fun the MR is good. If you plan to track it plan to invest in aftermarket coolers and limited amount of tq. Their are aftermarket clutch plates for it but they sure aren't cheap and the install is a nightmare.
