I didn't see the car in person but it is most likely an VIII. It looks like they put on a IX-type bumper. You can also do a nose chop on the VIII to make it look similar.
Of course the other idea is that they painted a IX LY, and then swapped out the headlights with an VIII.

That's an 8 with a 9 Front Bumper. He rolled down with us from Bellevue. He's new on these forums also. It's a "hand me down" from his dad. The old man got an Audi S4 to take over daily driver duties if I remember what he told me correctly.
Ah that would be me, Its an VIII, they didn't send a LY IX to the states 
As autoxer_minh said it was previously my dad's car and about a year and a half ago or so he decided to get a new car. The bumper was pretty messed up so I decided to go for a different look and got a IX painted and mounted. Wish I could've stayed longer at the XXX meet but I was there with a friend who wasn't all too happy staying very long because of the weather 
I hope to make it out to many more meets in the near future though

noogie - thats cool i have the same colour as you. thats what i thought. no ly ix made to the states. my front bumper is pretty beaten up too from the previous owner. i think he was from oregon. ill prolly do the same upgrade or have the nose shave off. :P

Personally I love it, but my recommendation is to buy it from a fellow member and get it painted, that way you dont have to deal with all the different grills and bits

I personally prefer the IX front but I know some peeps are bigger fans of the VIII.*edit - Look into the nose chop, Josel! It could be cheaper, but you might be able to find a IX front bumper for cheap! I actually know someone that has one in his garage (not LY), but not sure if he is selling.
