English Racing: long term update

Quick note to anybody searching the boards for long term updates.

Background
---------------------------
1 owner 06 IX SE
upgrades performed from stock @ 15k, currently 68k.
DD + 3 track seasons ( ~2k track miles)

English Racing work
-------------------------------
GSC S1, pipes, intake, mbc, tbe @ 22 == 340/320
brake duct kit, pads, fluid, rotors
sways, suspension, stiffening components
running at roughly stock weight

Keys to success / maintenance (imo)
-------------------------
fluids: full fluid changes every 10k. oil between every track session
whp: keeping it ~350whp permits use of stock clutch, turbo, drivetrain / TC ..... and they last. HUGE amount of $$ to be saved by staying in the 340-360whp range
never: dropped the clutch.
octane: 1/2 can of Torco, or 2-3g of race gas (track-only) to avoid knock.

Results
---------------------------
I replaced the clutch at 58k.
pads, rotors, tires fairly frequently.
Never had a non-wear item break.

This is exactly the longevity and DD driveability I hoped for when I purchased the car, and had English Racing tune it: bulletproof as a DD, and bulletproof on the track.

thanks guys

Great info. Are you using the Torco because you've had problems with knock before? I wouldn't think you would need it at only 22psi.

Have you seen any negative side effects running the torco in your car?

I met you once last year, hope to see you at Pacific again this year.

I'd bet it's just as a safety net, like how I think meth is supposed to be used. His timing would be pretty agressive to be knocking at 22psi lol.

Torco: yes, as safety. I've heard of no long term issues from using it, and scoured a bunch of forums. There are a number of people using it on lapping days. I did get knock on the 100+ degree day last summer, when I forgot it. Dumped in 2g of 116 at the track, and solved. A number of people blew and dropped fluids all over the track that day.... my max oil was about 110c, no issues.

Clutch: Exedy I. Engagement and behavior feels identical to OEM.

Thanks. Do you know if that clutch will hold ~390 whp/360 wtq?

from what I remember reading, it claims only 10 or 20% clamping above OEM. Might not last too long at the numbers you're quoting, would be my guess.

I've had a similarly excellent experience (knock on wood). I've been tracking my car for four years, 2161 track miles. The past three years have been with an ER tune. I find that when everything is hot, I have to add a couple gallons of race fuel (as Aaron said I might), then everything is fine, even in 95 deg weather (Tyre11c0rp will remember that day too!).

Its my daily driver, but I've only got about 35,000 miles on it. Just tell Aaron how you plan to use the car (be firm!), and you should be good to go.

Just noticed the trees are blooming - time to get back out on the track!
