How much preload are you guys running on your FP WG's? Currently running an FP 18psi WG with about 1 turn of additional preload.

I have the FP WG but am not sure of the pre-load. I'll ask a buddy who also has one but isnt on here much..... (you could also call FP, they are in TX so its only 2 hours ahead of us)

Supposed I could.

Reason I ask is because there is basically 3 settings for preload. No preload, moderate preload (3 full turns of the WG arm adjuster past WG flapper seatage), and high preload (4 or 5 full turns of the WG arm adjuster past WG flapper seatage). I have mine at one full turn past no preload, so very little preload. I wanted to see what people are typically running for preload on these FP WG's to minimize boost taper uptop.

I know its virtually impossible on a factory IX turbo, hence why I stress minimize. I only recently started having noticable boost taper after my dump install. With the Megan O2 housing, it was nailing 27psi with a drop to around 25psi at redline. Now with the Muse O2 dump, Im nailing 27psi with a drop to 21-22psi at redline.

Perhaps the boost controller vacuum source could be it? I know on DSM's its typical to not run the J-Pipe nipple for a boost/vacuum source as it can cause a spike issue. Perhaps Ill consider moving the source somewhere else as a test. Input?

Aaron told me there was no point of running a FP wg on stock setup. Did u use the gasket they provided or the spray on copper?

As far as the dump Im using a divorced gasket which seems to be perfectly sealed. Aaron is probably right in the aspect that you're probably stuck with at least minimal boost spike/taper issues on a factory turbo (at least running internal wg).

One thing I did notice after the wg switch was that boost hit harder and the wg stays shut a tad longer.

Get a Fp 25psi wga. Trust me, you'll be able to tell a difference.

Ryan, you have the newer non-adjustable one. When purchasing this one you need to choose what spring is installed prior to purchase.

If you have the older style like mine, I would recommend the standard three full turns from the zero setting. This is 18psi setting - if you are running 25psi or higher on your boost then go one full additional turn and this will put you at the 25psi setting.
