what do you guys think eclipse gxs

I was going to turbocharge my 2010 lancer sportback but after looking into it decided not to since it was so much $.

I am going tomorrow to go look at a 1997 eclipse GSX it has a ton of mods but needs some work. a friend of mine is selling the car it has been siting for a while now (almost 4 years) he stopped working on it when he bought his WRX so this is the reason for it to be sitting.

the car has a clean title and aprox 130,000 miles he just had a new head gasket (and timing belt) and ARP headstuds put in right before he parked it.
it needs a little body work (new drivers side front fender, and the hood could really use a paint job.)

here is a list of mods
It has a brand new 16G turbo, with ported turbine housing, exhaust manifold and O2 housing from and Evo3, 3inch SS downpipe, 3inch highflow cat, HKS Dragger exhaust, It has an ACT 2100lb clutch. It also has a Greddy Profec B boost controller, and blow off valve. Tein SuperStreet coilovers, it also comes with a set of brand new Tein Flex coilovers, Greddy EO1 Boost controller and a Japanese Limited edition S-AFC (white lettering on black screen) that have not been installed yet .

he said the car needs a new battery, and new rotors, and tires. he also said the gas needs to be drained sinceThe gas is like 3.5 years old.

so now for my question... he is offering to sell it to me for 1500.00 do you guys think this is a good deal? what are some things I should be looking for as far as possible problems from the sitting so long?

sorry for the long post and I appreciate all the help you can give me

Make sure the front strut towers haven't rusted through.

For $1500 you could part it out for more than that. Assuming what your friend is telling you is 100% accurate, jump on it.

I'm going tomorrow to check it out. gotta pick up a battery to start it up and I'm going to drive it to a friends shop and put it on a lift to make sure its not a rust bucket. I know to check the strut towers for rust I had read somewhere that that is a common issue. I hope all is well and I can pick this up from him

well I couldn't get the car to the shop today because its snowing like crazy but I did pick up a battery and went over checked the car over and decided to install the battery. I unplugged the coil and turned the car over a little to get the oil pressure up plugged it back in turned it over and it started up first try WOOO!!!! ran like **** for a few blowing all kinds of nasty stuff out the exhaust but seemed to get better after idling for a few.

the body is in good shape (no rust) few scratches here and there and the drivers side front fender is pretty banged up (the car is still drivable with it though) he told me he has the boost turned down because he is still running the stock injectors and fuel pump (I will have to upgrade them)

the windshield also has a big crack down the middle of it so that will have to be replaced.

hopefully tomorrow or Thursday I will be able to get the car to the garage and on a lift to see what the unders look like

that's really my biggest concern is there any way to tell or any way to know if this is the case. the person who is selling it is a friend of mind and I don't think he would screw me

he has another one that needs a motor... the interior and exterior is in much better condition in the other car but I dont really want to get involved with installing a new motor plus I'm not to worried about the cosmetics as this will be my "beater/project" car he offered to sell me both for 2500.00 lol

Here is a good link: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ot...lk-really.html

It was a big problem with 95-96 dsm.
With over 130k on that engine, I doubt it'll be a problem. Even if it does happen in the future a 6 bolt swap is a simple and not too expensive.

For more info on DSMs check out http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

Also join DSMtuners, there is a wealth of DSM knowledge there.
