Smaller Wheels - Outlander Sport SE

Hey guys wondering if anyone's already done this homework - I'm looking for bigger tires and since there isnt a lot of clearance on my '11 AWC SE I'm thinking I'll have to go down in wheel size. Has anyone looked into minimum wheel diameter and offset needed to clear the SE's bigger brakes? I'm hoping for 16" but realize I'm probably looking at 17.

Any help greatly appreciated!

What do you hope to gain from bigger tires? Out of curiosity

The Outlander Sport SE brakes are still really, really tiny compared to what I'm used to seeing on the Evolutions. Likely most 16" wheel sizes will fit especially since the base model Outlander sport uses that size but with taller sidewalls on the tires so that the overall diameter of the tires are the same. I would be realyl surprised if the brakes were different across the various outlander sport models.

Which brings us to the point, I don't undestand what minus sizing the wheels is going to buy you clearance wise if you use tires with the same width and overall diameter?
