Behind rear view mirror

I own the 2012 outie sport, this may sound like a stupid question but.
What is that black piece behind the rear view mirror?
It look like it has one wirefeed into the black box but no wires to the rear view mirror
Dont have sirius or the nav, so just wondering what that was, any help appreciated

+1 for rain sensors and light sensors.

FYI when cleaning the windshield disable the 'auto' wipers. I forgot the first time and the wiper arms were flailing on me.
