Wheel Spacers

Hey guys, so I am wanting to keep the stocker 16's for now but widen out the stance. I run wheel spacers on my VW and have been for many thousand miles. The outlander is still new to me. Does our car run lug bolts or lug nuts? Also, anyone else out there ever install spacers? I did a little searching but couldn't find much I know that there needs to be enough space in the back of the rim for any exposure to recess into the rim, or find a setup that uses a flush style spacer to hub bolt. Thanks guys for all the help!

P.s.: thinking of something like this:
