Just made the 2nd payment at lunch today. 3:45pm she slid on ice and took out 2 trees. She is fine (sore). I think it is totaled though. What do you guys think?

wow I will say a prayer for you and your family....
I am glad everyone is alright!
Cars can be replaced, and yeah I would say with the frame damage to the front that it would be totaled out... sorry to hear the bad news at the beginning of the year.

Those tree(s) are NO Joke.
Ouch!! x2

From just the (fuzzy) pictures provided...
1. There's severe damage to the front clip - you can see the passenger struts are angling towards the rear of the vehicle. Plus, the front upper right chassis is completely gone.
Be very tough to get your alignment back to spec even if they try to weld in a front clip from any used Outlander Sport...

2. The front subframe, including parts of the cooling system, and hood are easily enough to replace.

3. So, did any of the front or side airbags fire?

Things can be replaced. So glad to see/hear you are okay!

Dear Dogginred90,
I feel your pain and I am very sorry that this happened to your family especially so early in your ownership. Thankfully though no serious injury happened. I noticed that you had the stock all season tires on. The lesson that you and all of us here in the forum can (and perhaps should) learn from this misfortune is that installing dedicated snow tires is absolutely imperative in areas where not only snowfall is common but also where the temperature may fall below ~43 F (~+6 C). In my opinion a second set of tires for winter on separate wheels is a much wiser investment than e.g. panoramic sun roof, premium sound system, leather seats, lowered suspensions, air intakes, modified exhaust systems, smoked LED tail lights, just to name a few modifications frequently discussed in this forum. I am far from certain that this accident could have been prevented if dedicated winter tires had been installed (but might). I live in Canada and have my snow tires on every year from late October till mid April. In 2012 October I took delivery of the car already with the winter tires on. The maneuverability of the car is noticeably better even on dry pavement . On wet or snowy roads the difference is like night and day.
Dear Fellow members, do not save money on the expense of safety. If you need be rather stingy on vanity related extras. I do not mean to offend anyone of you, who installed the above extras ( I like many of them) but I feel that these are not necessary modifications. In the US and Canada with the exception of a handful states in the south the winter weather calls for dedicated winter tires. Lives can be saved with this. A misfortune like this wipes off any smile from our face that has been put up by installing any of the (otherwise fine) extras I mentioned above. Why not install something that is undoubtedly useful.
@dogginred90, I also think that your car should be totalled as the frame has been bent considerably that consequently compromises the structural integrity of your car and your safety.

Thanks guys. Yeah it was snowing when I took the pictures that's why it is so fuzzy. Body shop just texted me saying in their eyes it's a total loss. She slid on ice so I don't think tires could of saved it, but we never know. Now just gotta wait on the insurance company to start the process. I will probably get another OS. maybe that sharp blue color this time. And get snow tires for it as well

I can COMPLETELY relate to "the dealing with the insurance" part..
We've been fighting the insurance for over a year and a half now, still over our original claim!

Not to make light of driving in snow & ice... but this guy can teach us a thing or two!
+1 Snow Tires

Sorry about your accident. I had a similar accident when I bought my Mitsubishi Galant. I had the same concerns you do. I didn't want to get it fixed and have issues later. The preliminary assessment from the body shop was $12,000, but that was before anything was taken apart. After the removal of the bumper and front end they found I had cracked the engine block and told me the new assessment was $26,000. I had the large V6 engine and I had purchased the vehicle for $30,000. My whole point is that insurance companies use a formula to determine whether a vehicle is a total loss. It's just money to them and they never take the customer into consideration. In your case looks like a lot of damage was done so it might be a total loss. My insurance company totaled my car out and paid what the car was worth. I only had it for 6 days with 1200 miles. They paid $26000 and I had gap insurance which paid the rest. I'm glad you're considering getting another OS. When I totaled my Galant I also bought it again. It saved me and my nephew from injuries.

They are coming Monday to look at it. I don't have gap insurance cause I was an idiot and didn't know what it was. This was my first ever new car. I am going to take a hit that's for sure. Lesson learned that's for sure.

It will be totaled out. My wife had an 2013 and got hit about the same way in the front, huge tire was just rolling down a hill, down the highway. If they do, try to ****** as much as you can out of it and get another one and use the stuff you got.

Well here is the update. Their first offer was 19,500. I declined since I still owed 22,500 and it was only 2 months old. They finally countered with a total pay off plus 300 cash. Not bad at all if I do say so. 1 hour after the final offer we are the proud owners of a 2015 Red OS ES. One question I do have though. Our factory remote start doesn't turn the parking lights on to let you know it is running. It did at the dealership, but not now lol. Any ideas guys?

Regarding lights..
I think you need to have the headlight switch turned to Auto for that to happen.
That's just a guess.

My wife and I are hopefully going tomorrow to pick up a leftover 14 OS.
I'm curious as to whether any air bags deployed or not and how you'd rate the OS from a safety standpoint after the accident.
I'm assuming you'd rank it pretty high considering you got another one, but I'm just curious.
