off topic: Summer Garden

I know this is way off topic:

David, here are the pictures of the garden I was telling you about.
I also planted, 2 years a go this summer, a peach tree and an orange tree, and just a week or two ago my co worker gave me a loquat tree as well. He said he had a small one that he would bring to work, turns out it was almost 8 foot tall lol. Driving that thing how was pretty funny. I put the bottom in the rear floor board and the whole dang tree too out all of the back of the O.S. with the limbs hanging out the back windows and filling up the rear hatch.
We just tilled the garden last week and added a ton of soil after it rained so we should be good to go to plant our summer crops. This little garden produces so much I was really shocked, my wife has taken the lead on the project. it was our 1st go at anything like this, we started it 3 years ago and wanted to live a healthier life style. It has really been awesome for my 2 girls to learn about as well. We also do a co-op that is all local farmed products as well... we do not use any round up or pesticides and the only casualties we have had are the tomatoes...either a rabbit or large rodent got everyone. We have grown so much stuff from cantaloupe, okra, cucumbers, carrots, beats, sugar snap peas, squash, ect. ect. I want to do a watermelon patch on the side of the garage next.
My orange tree is kicking too, it is a mandarin orange tree and it all ready has 9-12 full grown oranges on it that are ripening and they are huge.
I need to say this too, my wife and I have absolutely zero skill, we plant water and say a bit of a prayer, and for the most part we have gotten really lucky!
I am going to plant a lemon tree this summer to if I can get time to get to the garden center, having our 3rd baby is going to take up a lot of time, but I think I can fit it in...
Oh and those giant rock, well they were around a tree on the other side of the yard and look quite small, so I had the bright idea that I would use them to go around the garden... well they looked small cause they were more than 2/3 buried! it was a back breaking endeavor to say the least, but it turned out great and keeps our dogs out of the garden for the most part.

Woah!
Now that is Home Gardening!!!

That takes discipline my friend.
I would know, I've tried. Most of all my plants die after a few weeks.

You and your family definitely have the healthy living going on.

Thanks I usually kill any plant life I touch, that's why I let my wife run with this. I just helped build it, the lattice work was left over from the previous home owner and it has worked really well as far as the climbing vegies we plants. Jamie is researching the best summer veggies to grow so we can get started before the little one gets here. It has been really nice and saved us a ton of money as well. My mother has a HUGE grape fruit tree on her property and we get unlimited grape fruit, and her neighbor has a lemon tree so we get a bunch of big lemons too! Fresh is so much better. My brother gave me a 300 gallon water storage from one of his buddies and I hooked it up to my rain gutter, and it was full after 1 rain storm! So we have natural rain water we use for the garden too. We really have lucked into a bunch of this. My father in law found a mobile water sprayer that holds 20 gallons in the neighbors trash. He talked to them and they said that the batteries were dead and he could have it. Instead of buying the 2 very expensive dual mini batteries, he went and bout the cheapest car battery and it works amazingly,
makes it so easy to water the trees and the garden.

No worries, our off topic discussions add a lot to our little section of evom. And TBH, your garden is no more/less relevant than David's 3D printer (or plenty of the stuff I post).

Actually, all the off topics relates to our vehicles - cause we're hauling, pulling, carrying "things" we talk about in our off topics in one way or the other.

How I wish I can get 1 (or a couple) of those 300Gal. for free!
I've got a feeling this summer is going to be Very dry after all the rain we had..

Nice repurposing of the sprayer too!

Not exactly gardening related... But, it involves grass, dirt and digging.

So, last October we had a severe storm blow thru here and it broke my old tree-ring along with our 30yr peach tree >

Details here > https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ou...u-carry-3.html (Post#42)

Well, I finally squeezed in some time (2 weekends ago) to start rebuilding the stone ring and this time I made it bigger & A LOT more solid!
Used about 8.5 bags of 80lb concrete to form the foundation (with rebar) and as the mortar in between those layers of stone. It ain't going to be moving anytime soon.

Tree Ring Rebuild : Completed

Here it is finished.

Re-sod around the ring & transplanted a small bamboo bush into it, plus threw in some rosemary sprouts - hopefully they will take in this Heat...

(and stained the grout to match the stones a bit more too)
