Curt Class 3, 13079, 2014 RVR doesn't seem to fit, help!

Hi guys, just looking to see if anyone else had an issue getting this hitch to fit. I was surprised to first find my car doesn't have the tow hook to remove. The hitch doesn't seem to slide in between the two sets of "bungs" where the bolts attach on either side. I tried a pry bar to squeeze the two "plates" of the hitch up but they still would only clear one side and then not the bungs on the other side. Maybe the bungs on my car are too wide, or stick out too far? any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I've attached a pic of bungs I'm referring to.

Are you sure they send you the Correct hitch? (Need photo of your hitch.)

It's definitely identical to the part # 13079 which the website states is for my car and others have here. It's really just the two plates on the hitch that seem too wide to fit between the inner sides of the frame, it's too wide by maybe a half inch. So I was wondering if anyone else really had to bend this into place or not. I was not able too lying on my back with a pry bar.

Hope i'm explaining it properly, it's the plates where the 4 bolts go through which need to bend towards each other to fit between the frame.

well.. I was asking for a photo of your Actual hitch, so to confirm everything is the same/legit.

But if you are certain it's correct... then three things are possible.

1. Mitsubishi decided to change/alter the rear subframe for the 2014-newer models.
2. Your hitch's side walls are defective/cantered outwards by about 1/4 inch on each side.
3. Your vehicle's frame is bent?

None of the other members who's 2011-2013 have expressed any issues when installing.
Other than trying to hold up the hitch with one hand and trying to put in the bolts with the other, that's about the only obstecle to the install.

I cheated though..
my arms are too short to hold the unit up AND reach around to pop in those big bolts. So, out comes the floor jack.

PS: I did NOT need to bent those side plates inward at all during installation. Not even the slightest.
PSS: I don't believe anyone of us had the stock hitch-loop indicated in the Curt's installation guide, btw.

One Side Note -
You really have to fit (lift up) the hitch perfectly Straight Up in-between the frame. If you're lifting one side at a time, THAT might be your problem.

Thanks for your suggestions, appreciated. I got angry and packed everything back up and put it away so I didn't take a picture of the actual hitch, the part # on it matches and it's identical to the online pic and all of yours. Btw, nice to see such a clean frame, Canadian winters (sand, salt and mud) don't allow for this.

I did loosely attach the driver side first (bolts and nuts) as described in the instructions, I used a bucket to hold the other side, so next time we get a day up here above 0 degrees I'll try putting it up completely even, although I think I'll still be slightly short of clearance. I'll have to jack the up rear, I'm 6'4 and 260lbs so getting under the car isn't as easy as my Murano. If this doesn't work, I guess grinding those bungs flush with the frame is all that's really left to do.

Why don't you guys each measure your frames and compare measurements to see if Mitsu changed something between 13 and 14?

Since I'm such a nice guy, on 2013s -
I measured 35 3/4" from outer edge of my hitch supports.

Thanks for doing that, I'll compare mine hopefully within a few days. It's back to -10 with 10-15cm of snow today.

Keep the fire going in the fireplace. That's just a tad chilly.

Snow is finally gone, looks like I was right by being 1/2" off, my hitch measures 36 1/4" from outer edges. I'll see what I can do, I bought used, although still in the box and plastic wrapped, but I'm doubt curt would do anything for me.

I would like to know this as well. I was just about to click the buy button but was curious on the installation so decided to check the forum. Now I'm second guessing it for I too have a 2014 os.:/

I said screw it, cut the lip of the bungs off with the reciprocating saw

, not the welds, used a jack and got it in, took about 1.5hrs. Pics attached.

I wouldn't worry about it. It wasn't an issue with the car, it was the Hitch itself as it measured wider than it's supposed to according to others experiences. I was just unlucky, just make sure if you're ordering online that they have a decent return policy just in case. When it arrives just measure the outer points of the flanges where the two bolts go through on each side. It should measure less than 36", if not you'll have the same issue I did measuring 36.25". I don't recommend getting under your car with a reciprocating saw, I'm just very comfortable with that tool. But for any shop with the car up on a hoist could do what I did in 10 mins.
