I compaired their tape they supplied and a roll I had at the house and its identicle. My VG is definitely stuck on and has been for almost a yr with no issues. Maybe they switched back to the real deal.

As long as you're using the VHB bonding tape then you will be good to go.

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...apes/VHB-Tape/

The tape that was on the back of Joey's and my vortex generator was a cheap knock-off for the much lower grade double sided 3m tape which is NOT automotive grade. It is their household line of tapes (noted by the branded backing tape). The Rexpeed tape was of lower foam quality which pulled apart as if it were two pieces, rather than pulling/tearing but maintaining the foam's integrity.

You will be able to tell at a glance by the "3M" backing tape. The proper tape will not have a branded backing tape. When you pull the foam apart (between the Rexpeed and 3M tapes) it was quite different. Rexpeed's tape was not a firm foam and it (the foam) pulled apart right down the middle. The 3M product is a much more dense foam and would pull/stretch quite a bit before fatigue failure caused the tape to rip, rather than simply fail and come apart into two sections.

Yeah I wasn't happy with the tape they used for their heat shield when I had it. To be fair on the VG though, even the early run of the mitsubishi OEM ones had some instances of them lifting and coming off. Used to be quite a popular topic back in '05 .

How many of you guys will ever really be done with your car at a certain point? I'm beginning to feel like it has no end.

After all I've done, I'm excited for an ending. Except in my case it's moving towards a 100% complete OEM car, rather than using that as a starting place.

That sounds way more difficult than what I'm doing. I have so many options for parts. You need oem... That's gotta be a crazy hunt at times.

Been keeping a spreadsheet since I first bought the car and am only a few more items away from being "done." Except now the car is old enough to be wearing out bushings etc. that I never planned to replace.

Just burnt my clutch up and need to find a local shop to do the install of something better than stock clutch. Any suggestions?
