Wheel shop for TPMS swap
Wheel shop for TPMS swap
Hi guys. So I'm ordering some work wheels in about a week and I've read about many people have issues swapping the oem sensors to the work wheels, including several shops. To save myself one of these awful experiences, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good tire place in the Seattle area that they'd recommend for this service.
I saw seen some info about various methods to trick the tpms system. Frankly, I'd rather not have them because of the hassel, but hadn't come across a well written tutorial. However, from my research I was led to believe that the pipe bomb method wouldn't work and someon posted: "The "Pipe Bomb" doesn't work for the Evo X because the TPMS sensors are somehow tied to the wheel speed sensors for the ABS - after they realize they aren't spinning (which could take a while) the warning light will come on..." .
On a side note, where you by any chance at the novice auto-x school on Sunday in Bremerton? The co-chair said she drove an m-coupe if I recall correctly and that her husband was on the forums (wondeirng if that's u?).

Yes that is us, I'm Chris we were both there in the morning, then headed to SCCA in the afternoon.
Sorry I don't think I meet you.
Tire bomb won't work for tpms if they are going off of the roll out of the tire via the abs system, huh? I didn't know that how the X's worked. I thought only the earlier cars used that system. Quick easy way to tell is if your valve stem are rigid metal then you most likely have actual tpms sensors.
Good luck

I contacted Cobb today and they are not planning on disable the tpms requirement anytime soon because of the low level interaction they have with the ECU and risk of causing damage during the flash, or at least that's the story they gave me.
I've read a lot of mentions that Tephra was working on this feature with ECU Flash. I might contact English Racing and see if they have any ideas. Otherwise I will just end up buying another set and reflashing when necessary.

Did you try and have them swap over the OEM sensors at all or did you keep those on the wheels with your winter tires?

I kept them on my winter setup. We started to move them over, then opted not to, it was just becoming a pita.
Ishii motor industries did the whole swap for me, you could ask them what they ended up using exactly.
My wheels get here Wednesday. I'm guessing I'll get annoyed with the error and possibly go this route. I had reviewed it before, but seeing that I can't find any other alternative that will resolve the issue, I might have to bite the bullet.
