Moving down there - Tracks and meets
Hey fellas,
I plan on moving down to the Portland area in about a month and had a few questions about OR/WA area. Where are the good places for track days? What about good cruises?
Also what's the car scene like - is there a regular meet place on the weekends?
Finally, (probably more important lol) good places to look for an appt/house vs bad places? ...like, 'thug' sides, pretty neighborhoods, expensive areas.. whatever. - that could be for OR and WA I suppose.
Also just good places to hand out on the weekends. Input go!!
Thanks

For places to race, do you want Tracks, drag, or AutoX. Within 150miles you have for tracks PIR, ORP, The Ridge, and I think PR. Drag racing has PIR and Woodburn, both pretty near Portland. AutoX lots are starting to get more scarce for a good lot, but packwood is 150miles away for the best venue in the NW. There are a dozen clubs to run with for Track and/or AutoX.
Every Saturday is Cars and Coffee at two different locations. One with more exotics but lots of ****** (on the west side) and one with a younger crowd near the airport. Cobb Tuning also has 1st Thursday at their shop. Its mostly Subarus, but free food and still pretty fun usually.
For housing, you gotta figure out where you are going to work first. Driving across the river can be a PITA. I prefer SW Portland, but if you want to live in the hipster area that's NW and N Portland. NE Portland is pretty ghetto though not all of it. SE Portland is all the weird Portland stuff, then way SE is Clackamas and its pretty nice there. South of Portland in Lake Oswego and West Linn are all nicer areas and $$$. If you're buying avoid Multnomah county, you'll get double eff'd on taxes and crap. Stick to Washington or Clackamas county.

^Awesome, thanks man. I work as a remote medic and will keep that job (month on, month off... roughly) so for the most part I can live about wherever.. just put me in a good place to cruise and work on my car; pretty sure I'l be happy. What's weird portland stuff?
every sunday there is Red Door Meet.
its lots of every type of car really.

and like said above.
PIR and Woodburn are very close Drag tracks.
and Then PIR, Pacific Raceway, The Ridge, and a couple others in Washington are great tracks.

I personally really like the Vancouver, WA area if I were to move down there, but crossing the river during rush hour can be nasty. It doesn't sound like you have to worry about that so much though.
I know folks here are probably tired of me beating the drum but NASA Northwest is the best experience and value for getting on track, if you aren't going for top level instructing. They have some good instructors but if you know what you're doing and want to get on the track, no comparison.
Next month is the next event at Pacific Raceways - here is the event information: https://www.facebook.com/events/4258...87033211353640
Here is a video with did with LoreninHD about a NASA weekend: https://vimeo.com/72398629
We had ~8 evo's at PIR and would love to see a day where we can have a 20+ field of Evo's for Time Attack!
