if red mhi is similar to ss green, why not prefer the latter since is way cheaper?

You have to add in the cost of all the stuff you have to swap with the SS housing. Then there are smog issues for some states.

i got mine (ss green, 02 housing, tial mvs, pipe for the tial, oil lines) for half the price of a bb red. It is JB but again, it wouldn't cost more than $400-500 more if it was bb. The price difference is huge and their durability is supposed to be better. Or i am missing something and made a poor choice...

My question was not a rhetorical one. I will install it next month, so i really try to understand how this thing with the fp turbos goes. Is actually an ss green equivalent to an mhi red? and if it is, why people don't go that way since it costs much less (complete ss kit to be installed) and is not prone to housing cracks.

Similar but not the same. MHI will hit a lot harder than SS as far as the torque. It come in very early when compare to the SS. Torque help move the car so the MHI has an big avantage in that departement. The SS flow very well up top (RPM) meaning it pick up speed easy once in the powerband. So now depending of what you like to do with your Evo, you choose a turbo that will suit you. If I was to autocross MHI turbo hand down the spool is there and it low end power. quarter miles the SS should shine especially the bb. It all depend of what you want

i believe what you are posting is a comparison between mhi and ss in the same turbo. Please read my post again. I am trying to figure the differences and similarities between ss green and mhi red.

I got a lead on a FP green MHI with the antisurge 'FAP' housing for $800 + shipping, might snag that, only 1k miles on it.
But on the other hand MHI red.... |

But on the other hand MHI red.... $800 is a steal. Not sure I could pass it up. |

be careful. If it is too good to be true, you know the answer. I think there were many versions if Green. I recall the super early versions not being very good. Do you know if the FAP was added on later while the internal wheels are the original design? Have someone verify that it's a newer version of Green before you buy it. How many blades are on compressor wheel? 5 or 7?
But yah I hear ya on that lol |
