Dudical and justchil are my 2 new best friends as they think like me :)

Well, my car is going to be a trackwhore, but I cannot get myself to remove AC and heat - I think defrost will be a major issue on summer nights when temps drop - my buddy with a MR2 has to go home coz he cannot see ****! :)

I will leave door braces in till I get a cage. I think I may get a weld-in autopower cage and then cut out door braces....That glass will shatter like a mofo without braces...LOL

DB is right about the harness weight - I am modifying the interior harness and this sucks 100x more than removing the dash. Since I have eliminated most stuff like that sunroof (I want AMS carbon), rear wiper, rear window motors, seat belts, door ajar warning lights, stereo harnesses, roof antenna harness etc, dome lights, map lights etc - I will be taking it all off, basically except for cigg lighter adapter plug, although, I may cut the wire and rig one up under the dash somewhere for laptop use and make it a quick disconnect.

I started on the harness on Sunday and it gives you a headache tracing and confirming what needs cut and what does not. Its a cluster**** of wiring and so hard to understand why Mistu did this they way they did. ETACS computer sukc and the PDF manual is even more confusing with their circuit diagrams. There are random junctions etc and I hope the car starts when I am done.

I need to upload and post pics. Most of my mods are irreversible at this point, but I could care less. My new attitude in life with stuff I am dealing with personally and otherwise...:)

Fred - they sent me a new plug and its slightly loose :( It sits in and moves around. I will have to clear silcone it on or use black silicone. I dunno if I want to tint the glass for track visibility....

Also, 3rd brake light has to stay in for street use, but so do airbags ;)

I don't know what to say about the plug. Mine didn't feel loose at all from what I remember, but did have a very small sealing problem so I used clear window silicone under the flanges on the outer portion of the plug. Sorry If I steered you down the wrong path.

that is a cool cap for the rear wiper, where did you get that, maybe I missed the post.

I actually used a rubber stopper for a bath tub, its sounds crazy I know, but it fits perfectly flush with the window and I have never had a problem. Do you have a solution for the holes from the wing?

EvoIXMR, just take out the AC, who cares right, lol

I have had mine out for nearly a year now, it is annoying sometimes but I have never had a fogging problem. Just use some rain-x anti fog on the inside of the windshield.

I wish my car was track only, I would love to gut it like a mad man, cutting out wires and removing everything - sounds like fun.

I have a friend with an Audi S4 - everything was gutted including removing wires from the harness, door beams, dash, etcc - All told over 1,000 lbs came out. (including light weight wheels, brakes, etc...)

Yes, we have scales. Getting an EVO under 3,000 pounds is very possible in full street trim with all the safety items in it and interior.

justchill - give us an update on your progress

nightwalker Oct 2, 2007 04:37 PM

some on needs to hit up FAL to make us some lightweight glass

justchil Oct 2, 2007 04:58 PM

For those taking out the heater / ac core what are you plugging the large firewall hole(s) with? What are you doing under the hood with the coolant lines?

dudical26 Oct 2, 2007 05:59 PM

You can just put tape over the hole, kinda lame but it works.

Also use a male - male barb from an auto parts store to connect the two coolant lines together.

I have not done this myself, only what I have heard others suggest.

gang - not to go off-topic - need some wiring help since its part of my weight reduction - On the fuse box, there is a black mini fuse holder with a fuse for sunroof and seat warmer - WTF? I want to eliminate the mini fuse holder since sunroof wiring has been deleted, but this seat warmer fuse has one white wire plugged into another connector that seems to have 2 wires that run to instrument cluster - I am confused as to what this wire is and does? Anyone have any ideas?

oneguy Oct 3, 2007 01:52 AM

Could be some vestigial piece that is meant to activate a light on the gauge cluster for cars with seat warmers?

justchil Oct 3, 2007 04:53 AM

I'd love to delete my sunroof... if the labor wasnt so much on the AMS CF roof I'd have one already.

Here is another photo of the dash off... might prove to be usefull for someone...

And now the putting back together process begins!

dudical26 Oct 3, 2007 07:29 AM

What was the total weight of all the heat/ac air components under the dash?

justchil Oct 3, 2007 07:40 AM

I will let you this evening. The scale I have is awful... I'm going to pick up something more accurate on my way home from work this evening.

dudical26 Oct 3, 2007 08:18 AM

cool thanks. I was thinking about taking that stuff out on my car, but my friend has his out and whenever we go out at night in the winter we have to bundle up with jacket, hat, gloves, etc... It makes it pretty annoying.

Do you think its possible to remove the AC evaporater without removing the heater core? When I was last under the dash it didn't look like I could really remove any of that air stuff without making the heat not work at all.

Lastly - were you able to remove anything from the underside of the dash itself, aside from the airbag.
