FQ320 Changes for 2004

I'm a Newbie to the forum, first post and thinking of an Evo 8 purchase within the next month or two.

My Question is anybody have any insight into this FQ320 Upgrade or anything new for the 2004 models and is this something that won't be coming to the US?

Just in case anybody missed it the "Car" magazine May issue 489 has a Evo Ad (This has the FQ320 Upgrade I'm talking about), "Serial Killer" article on the Evo and a WRX STI and Evo comparison.

Thanks from a newbie {thumbup}

inside mits info.............
03 evo viii rs
312-319 hp
optional ayc
immediate release of upgrade chip for ecu (350-368 hp)
this could all change but reliable inside mits friends say "its being designed as we speek"
believe me or dont. im looking forward to it. oh and no pricing at this point.

Kinda. The current Evo that we have here in America is an Evo VIII, but they shafted us on the ACD/AYC. So, they could still add these upgraded parts next year, which would be a different trim than what we've got now, and it would still be an VIII. Of course, in America, we're too stupid to know that it's an VIII, it's just "Lancer Evolution" here. :dunno:

However, I'm waiting for upgrades to the head and intake on the 4G63. This would be a good way to go for the IX, in my opinion. So many other cars now have variable valve timing, variable intakes, etc. Perhaps we'll get these toys with the IX.

The Evo is a 2.0L four cylinder, four door car. I think it's kinda cool that this 2-liter kicks so much ass, why change it? I don't understand why people always say on their "Evo Wish Lists" that they want 2 doors, V6, etc. Extract more out of it as is, we all know it can be done practically and reliably. Look at the DSMs that put down so much power on stock bottom-ends that aren't even as tough as Evo bottom-ends. Imagine how fun it would be to see the Evo, still in 2.0L form, beating up on the 2.5L STi. :headbang:

It never ends!! I bought my 8 and couldn't wait to start voiding my warranty. And in the next couple of years I'm sure I'll get rid of this one in order to get the newer version and continue the cycle. The only thing that's disheartening is the fact that as soon as you buy something, a newer, better version shows up a few months later. It's like CPUs. But if you wait for the "newest, badest" product you'll end up dead with a million dollars not ever having bought anything. Buy it, tune it, race it/show it, dump it...on to the next project!!!

where i bought my evo from, mu buddy said for certain that the 2004 evo will have a 6th gear... ionno... sounds too, appealing

this is why i didnt buy one. i know that if i wait a couple years it will be twicw as bad ass and probably the same price. thats the price you pay for being the first on the block. the third and fourth on the block have better product than you !!

IS the upgarde for the regular EVO VIII or the RS. I'd be extremely pissed if :mitsu: does the RS without giving the original evo owners chance to upgrade with warranty. any thoughts on timing?? AYC i don't care about as not really into racing it, just want more POWER.

whered you get 2.3 from???? mitsu has never offered that displacement on anything, more likely 2.4...... how sweet would it be if they did a MIVEC head along with the higher displacement and actually offered an ecu that doesnt throw in twice as much fuel as is necessary, seeing as the sooby just got a 2.5 with variable valve timing, the evo would be so ridiculously mean with a MIVEC & turbo engine, 8000rpm redline... 375hp at 7500rpm, 380lb/ft tq at 3750 rpm argh!!.... it would compete with the viper at the 1/4track and the zo6 would be trying to hang, in fact, i think it would be untouchable :apimp: especially with acd even though it really doesnt need that- one drive can prove that much... ok im over it... but it was fun expressing my dreams

Erik@MIL.SPEC Apr 27, 2003 04:21 AM

I think :mitsu: will have some kind of change for 2004. Yes, it would make sense for them to wait until the next product change, but you have to understand this battle with the Sti involves pride, and you know how people get when that happens. Got to one up someone as quickly as possible. It's human nature, especially with Subaru taking the wind out of :mitsu: 's sails only 4 days after the Evo unveiling. I could be wrong, but my gut says I'm right.

Why do some of you guys persist in thinking that people who race would want ACD/AYC? Electronic driver aids frighten most racers because they induce handling behavior that is often unpredictable or just plain slower. These systems also require constant maintenance, are unreliable and add weight. In a stock car, I don't know one racer who would'nt turn these systems off before trying to put in a hot lap. Enough of this BS.
Cheers,
