Gents, can I just install an evo8 5spd transmission to my evo9 with 5spd? I'd like to get one rebuilt by TRE so I have it ready when its time to send the current one. I think I'm ok with difference in gear ratios. Thanks

you sure can... same box, apart from ratios

just while the car is away for me - any reason for intermittent and random counts of knock, like 3-5, sometimes on spool? One pull it'll do it, could do one immediately right after with zero counts. Interestingly, the old engine did this, and after I popped that motor (likely oil starve or maybe fuel starve or some small line or any random thing) on track the new OEM shortblock motor does it too. Different tuners, etc. all encountered the same, random, inconsistent, and small counts of knock on both motors.

I'm replacing the knock sensor, since that was likely a carryover. Also replacing the exhaust, at least the o2 housing and downpipe, and this DP has a flex on it too which may help since I think the old exhaust poteAntially introduced some rattle and at least some increase in back pressure due to being 2.75" before the rest of the exhaust went 3". I'm kinda suspecting one of those two things. I don't think it's engine damage since it's still a pretty new OEM block, plus the old block had the same issue. Happened on pump and E85 alike, which to me is another hint that it's not an actual motor problem.

Looking at getting tubular subframes made up by Racefab, Would you guys look to make any changes to any of the suspension pick up geometry or anything? I know a couple of the brand's which i checked out online offer a bit of adjustment on some of the pick ups for the arms.

little issues cropping here and there. intermittent knock was sorted, guess it was the knock sensor. however the exhaust manifold i've had on the car for about a decade has warped, so i'm swapping that one out with fp's race manifold. also jus gonna throw on map's o2 housing to replace the bits here and there.

frustrated and annoyed and deadlines are all over the place due to delays. hope to get the car back next week

I was going to respond to your initial knock count post, it should be pretty easy to figure out if its real knock or noise by pulling a couple degrees in the offending zone.

FP just asked me if i wanted a divided exhaust manifold. that is a yes, right? to replace the OEM cast manifold, and stock turbo?

Yes. You want to keep it twin scroll.

It’s got to be the cage. We weighted my budget build (with a basic 6pt cage) - would have bet $10 it would be 2900 easily and it was 3050k! I couldn’t believe it. Unless siluck hid 150lbs of crap in the trunk when I wasn’t looking it must be the cage lol

If you haven’t checked out out hill climb build thread we have a lot of info in there.

with a legit cage, aero, dry sump, fire suppression I don’t think you’ll get under 2600.

2250 thats as far as im aware lighter than even the tilton evo!

The white evo 4/5 in the photos is only like 1150kg(2500lb) my car currently sits at about 3000lb dry. I need to be around that 2500 - 2600lb mark i reckon

Here's the page with weight, but under 2200lbs. Add back in the track necessities and 2400lbs for sure is possible.

My car was 2830 years ago. That was before all the various weight reductions I've done over the past few years. Would wager it sits around 2750 now. Stock fuel tank, gutted interior (like super gutted, my doors are basically just the skins and the interior consists of a seat, dash panel, and shifter), plastic side windows, small extinguisher, fairly normal 8 point cage, stock subframes, stock driveshaft, still on a wet sump, stock steel roof (wish it was aluminum). No carbon on the car.

I was watching a video on the tilton evo v.2 the other day. that thing is full carbon body. full tube frame front and rear. the only factory steel in it is the lower A pillar and b pillar and the floor between them. He said that is still 1200kg. (2650lb) However he didnt specify if this was with driver or dry weight

If you exclude myself and fuel from the cornerweight my car currently sits at just under 3000lb. I think its entirely possible to get them down to the 2750lb mark with a normal persons budget. Carbon doors, tubular subframes and a carbon roof is like 175lb savings.

But to get down to under 2700 i think youd need to get pretty serious with the angle grinder and carbon
