I got really stupid... I checked my oil but didnt see any metal bits so I spent weeks addressing the bad cams and idle issue. As it turns out these upgraded oil pans trap the metal bits in the compartments

Ouch, #4 rod definitely saw some heat, other 3 look fine to reuse at least. Did Buschur supply a build sheet with clearances for it?

Would recommend picking up a filter cutter, checking filter pleats is always a pretty surefire way to check for metal contaminants.

What oil pan are you on?

ViciousLSD Aug 8, 2023 01:15 PM

no build sheet. I'll definitely get a filter cutter. when I drained my oil filter i found copper colored glitters which i thought was from the baffles. They found the big pieces inside the oil pickup.
I was told my cylinder is not round so had to be shipped and re-sleeved. thats total heart breaker lol.
I have the IE pan but I installed it after the track events. The autox courses have gotten faster and I have been riding on my rev limiter way longer in the past year :(

Those bearings are oil starved.

Riding the Rev limiter is hard on the engine, but it's more likely that it breaks rods bolts or throws a rocker. Not the damage you see here.

how recently did u install the IE pan?

Now the question is what would cause that. my oil pressure at idle is about 30-35psi and goes too 100+psi by 3.5krpm :(
I also have not run a full track session since the build. normally i pit after 4-5laps to cool the tires/check pressures

High G turns with an inadequate oil pan.

ViciousLSD Aug 9, 2023 11:59 AM

@LetsGetThisDone btw is that Artec manifold (non-vband) good for low end response?

LetsGetThisDone Aug 9, 2023 12:15 PM

The Artec manifolds are an improvement over stock for sure.

I would suggest getting in touch with mike and sending him a full session log from the session before the engine failed and let him see if he can spot anything that stands out in your oil pressure.

Is there any long sweeping right hand corners at your local track or the track youve been going to?

ViciousLSD Aug 9, 2023 02:16 PM

No logs sorry. MSR Houston CCW has a carousel going right. I haven't been back there in almost a year.
The last autox where my car broke was on a CW track but with autox cones

The damage could have been done prior to you installing the IE pan. Once bearings are hurt, they simply continue to eat themselves up until this happens.

I would think so too. unless some piece of rtv clogged a passage.

Always pays to do oil analysis. its not expensive to get tested and definitely worth it. now your going to have a fresh motor you have a clean slate to give them a reference sample.
