Replace clutch, then it got crazy.
Replace clutch, then it got crazy.
I have a 2003 evo 8 with 130,000 miles on it. I started with a stock car 3 years ago. Added a TBE, filter, intercooler and MBC from AMS with stage 2 flash. Ran a 12.88 in the 1/4 and was happy. Then my clutch stated to slip. So I pull the motor out and figure on changing the timing belt also. Then what direction do I want to go... Went all over the place. It started with a bb Black, then a green. They were not in stock. So I jumped on the F/S threads and seen a AMS gt35r Turbo kit. Thought that would be perfect. I have been a member on here since 2009 when I was getting info to buy an evo and search has been my friend since then. Im going to be putting this back togther in the coming weeks and I will need real time answers and help getting this thing back togther. I hope a couple of you that have done this before can help me out.

ARP Headstuds
HKS turbo Timer
AMS GT35R Turbo Kit (Prob going to try and sell this)

Gates Timing belt bal shaft Belt

and thats how it begins lol 130k is pretty high mileage to slap a gt35r on, its worth pricing out a rebuild kit from ams and a decent shop to do the work if your not confident doing it yourself. http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/A...build-Kit.html

130k really isn't high mileage. That is if the motor is healthy and was maintained during it's life. Motor could last a while after installing the 35r with the supporting mods and good tuning.
Good luck OP!
Timing belt is critical as is the clutch. Your other installs are fairly straight fwd and simple to figure out. If I were you I would down load the FSM if you have not already. As valuable as the real time info is on evom, its tough to rely on when your trying to get answers in a pinch and your waiting on someone to respond.
Do your research well in advance and check out the how to section on here, it has most of what your doing covered and will help out a lot.

http://carbon-based.net/_pdf_/mitsu_...orMMSAVol1.pdf heres the fsm for your car, im slightly biased to doing a rebuild because i threw in hks 272s and a homemade coil on plug conversion on my 97k evolution 8 and broke ring lands in a piston and suspiciously lost all fluid in my belt tensioner at the same time
Im very confident I can put it back togther. I have the manuel and I have read all the how too's. I could build the motor now but that would put me further passed my budget then I already am. My 8Turbo has a lot of play in it. I didnt want to put that back on the car. If the GT35r is too much for a stock motor an the lag will be horrible Ill sell it or put it on the shelf for the day I get another car and have the time to build this one. Ill go with the green an move on. I daily drive this car and take it to the track. 130k an it only had a slight leak at the valve cover. Well and a busted oil housing now. The tensioner bolt snapped off in it. I can wait for an answer or picture. It never hurts to ask for help. Ive spent the last 3 years searching its time for me to join in the fun.

Don't make the jump to the 35r yet. You have thousands to spend in supporting mods before you can truly realize the potential of that 35r. Take your time and relax.
These cars get expensive quickly!

Well that puts the brakes on that then. What size injectors are recommended for the 35r? Looking at springs and retainers for the cams also. I guess I will install the cams put the 8 turbo back on and wait till I build the bottom end for the kit.
