Evo 8 Complete Car Rebuild 800+awhp Personal Funded Build
Updates and more pictures on Page 3
Summary: Rebuilding My 2004 Evo 8 from Ground up. Complete Custom Change of Color. New motor, drivetrain, suspension, new bolts, clips, etc... Car will be street driven with some track time. Plan to have it look like its brand new inside and out!
Goal: 850+ hp, High 8's low 9's
Background: I bought my evo in 2009 bone stock and did a mild setup with 272 kelfords, supertech springs, fic 1050 injectors, walboro 255, ets fmic with short route piping, ets intake, orginal fp green turbo, buschur ported manifold, dnp 02 housing, evo 9 bov, 3" megan racing exhuast, map headstuds. I had it tuned by CBRD and put down 356awhp @ 24psi due to the stock 9 bov leaking over that. With that setup on the car my best run was a 12.2 @ 114 with 3rd locking out due to the act clutch :/
The car was running great with no issues and then when i was on a trip down to VA to drop a friend back off at her house my crank pulley snapped all 4 bolts and came flying out of the car @ 90mph on the highway and luckily no one was behind me to eat the pulley. So i had the car towed to my friends house where it sat for two weeks until i made it back down with a fluidmpr pulley, arp bolts, and a new crank sprocket.
I put the new parts on the car and did the timing belt on the side of the street infront of her house. I've timed many a dsm and evo before with no issues what so ever. I double checked my worked and everything looked great. Went to take it around the block to check everything before driving home 300 miles.. On the last turn before coming back to my friends house the timing belt let go on me I was pissed.. got a ride back to Pa and then came down two weeks later and trailered it back to pa. Figured i just bent the valves and it be an easy fix. Got the car back to the garage @ 9am on saturday morning and figured id have the car back up and running by dinner time.. Well we pulled the head off and my heart sank... I broke all the exhaust valves and they dug into the head and the pistons. I also noticed later that the exhaust cam got scored by on of the rockers coming off.
I was pissed at the car and began to part out all the aftermarket parts and figured id let the car sit and will come back to it another day since i was in the middle of building my 2g eclipse(which i ended up selling). The car broke in October of 2011 and over the next few months i was debating on keeping the car or selling it. I put the car up for sale but had no luck with any buyers wanting to buy what i wanted for it. So i then decided in Feb of 2012 to buy all stock parts i needed and rebuild the motor stock and to then sell it. So i started to buy parts to put it back to stock.
Then one day i woke up and said **** it, time to build the evo like i always wanted. So i purchased a Built 2.0 from Top level Performance and decided to build a 800awhp Evo. I will list a full break down in more post in this thread.

So now the plan with the car is to do a change of color, replace the driver side rear quarter which is rusted threw. Put all black interior in with Bride seats. And to put down around 800+awhp with the car. The build isnt going to be quick nor will it be cheap. I decieded to go with a custom manifold and intercooler piping setup on the car, but i still need to figure out the exact setup i want since i want to try to make it somewhat different from every other evo out on the road. I will be replacing all the bolts with new from Mitsubishi along with the clips, fender liners, etc... I want the car to look brand new inside, out, under and and above.

Catching Up: So i began by stripping the engine bay, removing the stock harness, and getting it prepped for paint. When it came to what color paint i knew i wanted something that would stand out but wouldnt be over the top. I decided to go with a shade of blue and ended up going with House of Kolor "Lake Violet Pearl" which a good friend picked up for me. I'm personally not a painter but luckily for me I have several friends who paint for a living and build custom hot rods (my one friend has built Eleanor and has a chevelle with a duramax in it). So my friend who weirdly has the same name as me but we arent related will be painting the car for me. We started with the engine bay. We spent a weekend preping and spraying the engine bay and it turned out amazing!
After painting the bay i then started to take about my wire harness to do a wire tuck. I ended up getting as far as getting everything separated and ready to cut for the tuck but then came across a Chase Bay harness for cheap but it has issues that i should hopefully beable to work out. i then took a night to install my Aem wideband into my cluster for a cleaner install. Turned out to be much easier then i expected it to go.
As of right now my evo sits completely gutted. I started to remove the old undercoat off the car and spray on the new undercoating. I also order new exhaust shield for under the car along with new bolts and brake lines. I'm debating on running full fuel lines from the tank up to the engine or just running new lines in the engine bay and replacing the oem lines with new oem lines. I have all my suspension off the car and my control arms and other items will be going to JNZ Tuning on Monday to get powder coated. I also purchased the entire whiteline catalog to replace everything on the car.
My trans should be arriving Monday as well and i have new trans bolts, tcase bolts, starter plate, and engine mount bolts coming in. I hope to have my engine in the car by next weekend. I'm also planning to order my coilovers, awd driveshaft and the buschur front brace, moustache bar, driveshaft loop and solid diff mounts this week. I just need to figure out who to send my rear diff to so i can have it rebuild. I would like to have the car back to being able to roll by end of October. Then i will need to order the ams cf roof so i can get that on and then will beable to trailer the car to my friends shop to get the rear quarter replaced and then prep the car and have it painted.

I had a question if you don't mind on the over lays for the dash.
How does calibrating work with the new mph and rpm on the over lay ? Using the settings in ecuflash ?
Also where you would look to pick those up if still around ?
Thanks and the build looks like its going to be sick. Good luck with everything

thanks, you should see it in person. Color is 100 times better in day light
I believe trustz still sells the overlays, i think i saw a few on ebay a while ago. There isnt any calibrating work really. These are design to fit over the needles so you dont have to remove them.
Thanks, Its alot of time and work to build this car not to even mention the cost of it. I have been taking pictures and everything along the way. Im only going to post the interesting ones on here i dont want to flood it with an over kill of pictures.

Yesterday i dropped off the rest of the parts to be powder coated at Jnz Tuning. I also ordered all brand new oem bolts, nuts, under car exhaust shield, oem starter plate, short shifter, and some other items while i was there. Hoping to have everything by this weekend so i can get the motor in the car so i can then start to put the suspension back together. Also this week I need to order my coilovers, aluminum driveshaft, the buschur front mount, moustache bar, solid rear diff brackets and driveshaft loop as well as a few other things so i can reach my goal of having the car on the ground by end of October so i can get it to my friends shop to do the body work, install the cf roof and get the rest of the paint finished.
