PATRICK B.'s "new" for 2013 thread......are 8's in the future???
I totally hear what you are saying man. Having your car still a street car and trying to make it a dedicated drag car is tough. That's why this season, I decided to make mine just full drag car.
That car looks sick! I like the red on that Mustang. If I were to go to a different platform, it would be something very similar to this

Somehow a precision turbo starting to smoke is a surprise to you guys? I challenge you to find me one with 1000 miles on it that doesn't smoke. Lol
Looks nice Pat. Great results so far. Congrats on your son.

The JB turbos not so much, but they do not belong on a 4 banger anyway.

Thanks Dan i will try and stay motivated to make this thing run the way it should!

We too have had pretty good experiences with the dbb Precision turbos and i should be sure to say that the issue is most likely 99.99% my own fault.
I'm almost positive that the turbine wheel must have gotten dinged by the plug strap going through it and like a dummy i didn't send it out when the car was down so now we are here

It showed no issues when the car went back together, no hint of anything when tuning, and nothing until after the track outting a week or so ago.
Then when i got the car home i noticed it smoking at idle and as we were trying to play with the 2 step so off it came.
Hopefully there is not a lot of damage and i'm wondering if i should go to a different sized turbo instead of the 6766 but i will wait to hear what PTE has to say first ........
No new updates as of yet i'm still waiting to hear back from PTE on my turbo
I'm going to wait until i get the turbo back and give it at least 1 more shot to see what she runs before i make the decision on what to do with the car
I do have my set of 26" MT ET Drags slicks for sale if you are interested or know someone that is please send them my way they have lots of lif left on them!

I hear ya Joey i know everyone goes through times like this.........a nice low 9 sec pass will likely change my mind again.....is too much to ask for a consistent low 9 sec car

Thanks man my son has been the hardest but most rewarding thing to happen to me.....ihave a great respect for anyone that has a child let alone multiple children

After losing the 2.0 I was in the same position as you. I was going to build an ls based notch with a 76+mm turbo. It would have been considerably cheaper to keep it running, faster and I would have a place to race it more often. Then I started thinking about who and where I'd be racing it with. It wouldn't be with or against any of the long term friends I've met in this scene. It would be against guys that are crazy serious about drag racing, ultra competitive with very fast cars. What it came down to for me was that it would end up just being the same cost to do what I love with the evo or do what I think I'd love with a mustang. I'd have had 2-3 years or more in finding and building a clean chassis the way I wanted and with a newborn son it just wasn't something I had time for. When it comes time that I have more time for racing I'm hoping enough guys have stayed in the scene that we have our own races but I doubt that will happen. In that event Ill buy a notch and go racing.
Good luck Pat on whatever you end up doing.
I had several thousands of miles on my dbb 6262 before I sent it in for inspection after losing an engine. It didn't smoke or have any issues when I sent it in. I get it back and it smokes like a locomotive for almost a minute after cold start. Once warm it mostly goes away, I feel like I'm in a hard spot with it. It was just out of warranty and they went through it for me for free but I get it back and its worse than it was when I sent it in.

I'm mainly interested in drag racing and i recently got an amazing offer from a long-time friend and fellow enthusiast that i don't think i can pass up so another project is in the works.
Now comes my dilema of what to do with the Evo

I did get word from PTE that the turbo has been freshened up and should have been shipped on Mon or Tues so i hope to have the Evo back up and running next week

I don't think i can move on unitl i get a CLEAN pass with this set-up and i'd hope it may gain a few more interests if i put it up for sale as a low 9 sec Evo rather than "just" a mid 9 sec Evo
hold the F on. up for sale? wait a second. you said are 8s in the future right in the damn title. well if your asking us we think YES. so you can not sell it as a low 9 second car. thats BS. run 8s. then keep it because your bad ***.
Yes unfortunately i have seriously been thinking of seeing what i can get for it and even had another member offer me $30K for it but i think it could go for more.
I've also thought about de-modding it and DD'ing it with a stockish set-up and just enjoy the 5,000mi chassis and it's handling capabilities that is if i can still find something to drag race with to satisfy my addiction!
Not so sure about the "bad ***" label maybe more like just an "***"

An 8 sec pass of any sort would need every planet in alignment at the current weight but you never know what can happen hopefully we can see in the next week or two......
Low 8's = NEVER GUNA HAPPEN in this configuration
UPDATE TIME!!!!!
Well from the date of the last post it's LONG over-due LOL!
This year has been kind of a bust for the progress of the Evo
I was really excited to get some good ET's with the new dogbox and from the initial testing things looked promising just needed to dial the 2 step back in and launch the car like it should be but alas a bunch of things have put the Evo on hold.
I had picked up a FD RX7 that i was going to build after a good friend offered me a motor sponsorship and i was about ready to sell the Evo but i have since moved into a smaller place and just don't have the time nor the space to keep all my cars so something had to go and that was the FD
So now i can focus all my time/effort into reaching the goal set forth in the title of the thread........to run an 8 sec pass whether in 2013 or 2014 whatever it takes as i'd like to make my car known as the first and only 8 sec Evo here in CA (I've never been one to set goals that i didn't think were attainable but i think this is a healthy one
)
Not too sure how crazy i will get with it as it will mainly depend upon the budget of course and i def. don't want to cut up the Evo too much but i do have some ideas and things i'd like to change up over winter.
The last i posted i had just done some testing on with the dogbox but was having issues with the 2 step not making much boost off the line which ended in major bogging as i didn't want to burn up the new QM trying to slip off the line to get some vehicle speed.......come to find out the turbo was in need of a re-build so here we are after the car sat for a few months...........

Ready to go back in it's home......

The last race of the season is on Oct. 13th which i hope to make a good showing at whether it's running a new PB or going rounds it should be FUN either way
Check back for more updates and pics of new go fast parts to try out on the Evo.........
