Marine Corps Retirement Gift
Marine Corps Retirement Gift
Last summer I received a job offer that I could not refuse and decided to retire from the Corps. Fast forward to April of this year and I am on terminal leave from the Marine Corps and working at my new job. I had decided that my retirement gift would be to build up my Evo 9. The block was sent off to Buschur Racing to be made into a 2.3L, and the transmission and transfer case were sent off to TRE for upgrades/rebuilds. (Stage 3 tranny with 4.11 final drive) Got up with Tom at TSCOMPUSA and ordered all the other stuff I would need to get this done, to include a FP Black turbo.
Here she is last year when I decided to retire.

Here she is at the shop with a little weight missing from the front end.

Engine together and turbo hanging on. I also had the valve cover painted to match the car.

I'm expecting the call in the next couple of days telling me that she's done and ready to be picked up. I've also decided to go SD this time and really need Tom to answer my email, so he can send me a base tune, so I can actually drive home from the shop.
I would like to thank the Marine Corps
, Buschur Racing, Jon at TRE, Tom at TSCOMPUSA, and Jeff, Wes and Matt at ECP in Jacksonville, NC for helping make this possible.
I am way nervous and excited at this point.

Nice parts and car! Are you going with regular pump or E85? I'd post a complete parts list too.
Thanks for your services!

congrats on the retirement and being able to splurge a little on yourself. I might be in the same situation but still have 3 years on my contract lol. I'm hoping to reward myself with a full rebuild as well. Nothing crazy but maybe along the same line as yours.
Good luck bro!
Good luck bro!
Looks awesome Ben! should be a blast to tune it! I wish mine was graphite gray instead of silver. but ultimately i'd rather have a white evo

Update for 12 July.
Shop called and told me that the Evo would be ready shortly. I quickly, but safely, drove over there and uploaded my SD base tune. Fluids were added and double checked. I was surprised when the car started right up. 15-20 seconds later I was told to shut her down. There was an oil leak at the back of the block. I immediately felt sick to my stomach.

They immediately started looking for the cause and found this.

Luckily they were able to source a replacement, and after refilling with oil, we tried again. Car started up and we let it run for a bit to get the temp up and they continued to look for leaks. Once that was done I was told to put it into gear and the car refused. At this point it was almost 10PM so I called it a day. When they open at noon I will be removing my clutch pedal stop and begin adjustments until she is shifting and there is no clutch drag. Wish me luck.

My Evo is back home safe and sound. Shop had the clutch mostly adjusted when I arrived today. Changed the oil when I got home and took her into town to buy a new laptop for my upcoming tuning with Tom @TSCOMPTUNED. Hopefully it doesn't rain like today so I can wash it. She's absolutely disgusting right now. Turbo sounds AWESOME!!!
