New clutch recommendations for 06 IX MR

Hi all,

I've been away from the evo scene for a while but i just purchased an 06 IX MR. It came with some bolt-ons, upgraded suspension and a tune. There feels to be more parts installed but the person i bought it from only listed what I have stated. I feel its making around 450 but without taking it to a dyno myself i have no idea. I'm basing my HP guess on the fact that I walked all over my cousins GT350 Mustang. With that said, the stock clutch isn't holding up to what is in the car currently and starts to slip in 4th. 5th and 6th. My power goal is 600+ HP. This will be my DD but I also plan on racing it when the occasion arises. What is a good clutch that will be able to hold 600+ HP and be good for a DD? Like i said above, I've been out of the import scene for some time but my last Evo IX had an Exedy twin disc and a lightweight flywheel with an OEM ToB. Is that still the best option or have there been new ones that have performed better?

Thanks all for your help.

At that level, a twin is a requirement. I personally run the exedy and its still a top contender for the evo.
People have been running the ACT with varying results and I know I have seen 1 other one regularly but can't remember the name.

The other one is heard about is Carbonetics. Heard they are relatively new so I dont Inow much about them. Thank you for your input. What flywheel and ToB are you using?

ACT had issues with spring tabs, but since has been redesigned.

I just put their Organic Disc/Solid Hub twin in my car, it's rated at 875tq. Literally zero chatter, drives like stock with a stock pedal feel. Very happy with it. STM stocks them and they're local so it was an easy buy for me

That wasn't the one I was thinking of, hopefully I think of it.

I am running the exedy flywheel and a stock ToB.

Another good option is the ORC p659 sprung twin disk

I've always had great results with Exedy, glad to see they are still making good parts.

The ACT twin kit, like any other Twin, comes with its own flywheel

The ACT and Exedy twins are the most commonly run twins for a nice driving clutch that can handle the power you're looking to make.

I've seen a few guys running Ogura (ORC) twins lately as well and seem to be happy with that too.

Quartermaster is well regarded for more racing oriented setups and bring a lot of good features to the table, this was second on my list for my needs, but not being sprung kind of killed it for me.

I just picked up an Action Clutch 7.25" twin for my car and although my car is a track only car I think it would still make for a decent street clutch and they also have an 8.5" version which would likely be even more street friendly. It was the only one that checked all the boxes for me:
  • Able to handle 600 reliably
  • Gear drive center hub (reduces spline wear on the input shaft)
  • Sprung (and can easily be converted to unsprung by just changing the center hub)
  • Uses a hydraulic throw out bearing (more reliable, less moving parts)
  • Lightweight

There's more good clutch options than there's ever been for these cars lol

All great recommendations! To give you further choice paralysis, take a look at the X-Clutch Twin Disk. It is quieter than the ACT twin, and holds more power. Been running one for two years now with no issues to report!

I did look at their 8" twin, but have had seen enough people have issues with their products and get almost nonexistent customer service kind of wrote them off for me.
