GB: AEM Twin Fire

New Features and Improved Circuitry!

AEM’s digital Multi-Channel Twin Fire Ignition is the lightest, smallest and most cost effective ignition module on the market. This unit is available in four- and eight-channel configurations, works with O.E.M. coil-on-plug and distributed spark systems, and is ideal for applications that utilize aftermarket stand-alone engine management systems.

Our Twin Fire Ignition module is the only capacitive discharge ignition system available with dual capacitors. This enables the AEM C2DI to produce more spark energy and voltage per spark than any other available CDI unit. AEM’s exclusive Twin-Cap technology stores the energy for two distinct spark events and allows for full energy for each individual plug, including high-rpm V8s, and even on rotary engines utilizing separate leading and trailing ignition maps.

Key Features:
• 189mJ spark energy per capacitor
• 540v primary/54,000v secondary voltage energy
• Multi-Strike capability of up to 10 sparks per ignition trigger (20 degrees)
• Twin-Cap spark events are at full energy and can be simultaneous
• Smallest (5.5” x 4.625” x 1.375”) and lightest (1.5lbs) CDI on the market
• Four- or eight-channel availability
• Full spark energy with battery voltage as low as 9v
• Tachometer output included
• Extruded enclosure

FAQ

I talked to AEM and they are willing to do an introduction GB for their new unit that will be released by the end of April. If we get 10 people there will be a nice discount. PM me for pricing.

I am finding out more of the specifics from AEM as we speak but from the looks of it, its basically the same unit. The only thing is its not plug and play but install is very straight foward.

I doubt it could be any smaller/lighter than the HKS unit.
It has to be A LOT cheaper than the HKS unit, too, since it is not plug-n-play. How many people feel comfortable splicing the ingition wires? I honestly think that you should source a set of plug-in harness even if you have to get it from HKS.
But if you post a price a lot more people would be interested.
I don't mean to trash... :}

Yea I hear what you are saying, I will have prices today for this. I like the idea of getting harness from HKS but I am not sure that it will work. I guess I will have to find out.

If it is anything like the old CDI that was re-called it will not work with coils with built in ignitors(Evo coils have built in ignitors).

I'm sure it's still going to be the same concept as before, only they changed the interior architecture and hardware.

well after convos with AEM telling me yea it will work, I finally got two response from members on aem board stating "it is a CDI type ignition, it is not an inductive one. It can't work with coils with built-in ignitors ... " so I guess this is a no go. I wish AEM themselves would have told me this from the start.
