Ideally trying to do the smartest thing.

I asked for hours because I got price quote on how long it will take its basically based off a number on the internet.
The guy said the internet said 9 hours so its going to cost $900 at $100 an hour. But if the job can be done in under 4 hours hours by someone who knows what they are doing why is the price quoted at 9 hours? Something is are not adding up to me.

Not sure, can I buy all the equipment to hold all the weight and still be under $900?

This is the set up I used when doing my clutch. One arm of this engine hanger holds the engine while the other is used to suspend the transmission by way of a chain fall hoist. The transmission end of the engine needs to come down and I moved the lower engine block forward by inserting the jack from the trunk of the car. A bottle jack was under the transfer case to keep it from falling out while the block was moved forward. So, interesting process.

There is a hole on the transmission shifter bracket that is at the transmission's center of gravity. Attach there and the transmission hangs level. The car's bumper needs to be raised about 20 inches to clear the transmission.

The time the shop charges for is probably the flat rate. Doing things faster than the flat rate is how mechanics make a living. It is also how they sometimes screw things up.

Wow, so that engine hanger is doing most of the lifting. Also by the looks of it the hanger is supported by the frame of the car, so you have the car jacked up ~2 Feet, and the engine hanger is holding everything up?

What hanger and jacks are you using, the price is not bad being around $100.

The engine hanger is supporting everything and the chain fall hoist supported by the engine hanger is doing all of the lifting. The engine hanger is sitting on the two shock towers and the front is on the radiator support. The chain fall hoist I bought at Menards years ago for about $50. The car was lifted by a standard roll around floor jack that came from Sears but is also many years old.

The trick (and it is a big trick) is getting the transmission past the subframe and fender. The installed transmission overhangs the subframe and is above the fender. So the dropping of the transmission end of the engine clears the fender and the moving of the lower block forward is to clear the subframe. Here is a picture of the car on stands.

The engine hanger I used can be found here:

This is just one way of doing the job. There are as many ways as there are people doing it.

Well since you're in Long Beach, why not take a drive down the 91 and see Massimo Power, they can do it in a day and do awesome work. I had my clutch installed there and will probably continue to go there for as long as he's in business.

I need to change my location lol. I live in Fullerton now. And that seems like a good idea, since they will have parts, they closed today but I will call them tomorrow.
