Protection film
Protection film
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a protection film (clear bra) for my evo x. I found the following two brands available in my area: Suntek and Premiumshild Elite.
Do anyone have experience of these two protection films in comparison regarding:
1. how well they protect the car body from stone chips and scratches?
2. how well they can last?
3. how well they can self heal?
4. how much they cost for front end/whole car if you happen to know?
Thank you!

The prices for front, and body kit , is $975.00 , in Fl.(XPEL paint protection film)is the best in Fl.

It's a toss up for me. You have to be really careful waxing because if you get it at the transition from the film to the paint it's really hard to remove and just a little wax or dirt makes the edge of the film really noticeable. I now mask the film when I wax.
As far as how long it lasts, it depends on the conditions where you are. A car parked outside all day in Florida is going to have failure long before a car garaged day and night in Washington State. 10 years is how long most of the companies warranty for. Just go brand name (XPEL, 3M, etc) when you buy.
The self healing works pretty well and some filler wax will take care of light scratches as well.
As for "the whole car" you typically don't wrap the vehicle with this stuff. On our '11 Ralliart we see stone chips on the front bumper, hood, and front roof edge. The rest of the car has been pretty safe (with Ralliarmor mudflaps on, that is.)

I have Xpel Ultimate on my Evo for 2 years and 4 months now. It looks basically the same as the day I had it wrapped. No rock chips on the film whatsoever. My best decision ever.

The day when UCC wrapped my Evo in Xpel Ultimate. It covered 1/3 of the hood, and you can tell where it is by the inconsistency of the flare:

Photo taken last week. You can see there are some rock chips on the hood where it is not wrapped, but the wrap remains in perfect conditions:

Well, actually, aluminum corrodes and will lift paint too. Not as bad as rust but still an issue you should prevent. Every Spring and Fall I touch up paint chips just to be safe.
