I cant seem to find an answer to this question posted anywhere, can you put dot 5 brake fluid into an Evo 7? Not wanting to use it as a top up but a full bleed and replace with Dot 5.

I would think the EvO 8 & 9 fluid spec would be the same as the 7 (please check)

Vehicles with DOT 5 brake fluid are usually filled with it from the factory. This because it is difficult or impossible to bleed out all of the old fluid. Also, some claim DOT 5 is incompatible with ABS. The only maker in the US that uses DOT 5 is Harley Davidson. You could go with DOT 5.1.

Personally, I don't want to try it. There's other more profitable things my car needs.

DOT 5 is silicone based. DOT 4 and 5.1 are glycol based. Which means you should never mix 5 with 3/4/5.1.

That's correct.

 

The idea is that, as you go from DOT 3 to DOT 4 and DOT 5.1, the boiling point temperature specification is higher. DOT 5 has the same boiling point specification as DOT 5.1. However, there is no restriction limiting a manufacturer from selling DOT 5.1 and labeling it as DOT 3, in other words exceeding the specification. This is frequently done.

What's more important than whether the fluid is DOT 3, 4, or 5.1 is reading the label and/or buying from a company with a known reputation for producing a dry product.
