OEM Evo 8/9 WGA & Bigger Turbos / Discussion

I've searched and searched and had no luck finding info on crack pressure on our evo 9 WGA under boost. I think I read that the stock WGA has a 10 pound spring and that's about it. Has anyone done more tests like this from Evo X?:

I wonder how much exhaust we lose from our WGA not being able to hold the wastegate closed under boost.

Can't believe how many threads are out there that started discussing how they will compare OEM WGA vs a Forge unit and just ends. It's frustrating reading so many threads with no ending!

Not sure how one would measure the crack pressure, but im sure that spec is somewhere.

In my line of work, our valve component suppliers note the crack pressures in their specs

I should have asked to record the wastegate arm during my tune to see if it starts opening early. My spool is amazing, so I think my stock WGA is holding the exhaust gas pressure fine during spoolup. I am also curious if OEM WGA is hold on top since my E85 boost drops to 24 psi at redline.

Yes your stock wga is holding you back at redline in terms of holding boost, there's only so much the 3 port can do. my turbosmart 22psi holds 27.5 at 7500rpm.

Do you have any preload on the wastegate arm?

As an aside, I keep seeing posts from you relevant to my modification plans. Thanks for the knowledge!

Thanks!
My OEM WGA should be set to stock preload. My stock 9 turbo had 3 half turns when I switched to HTA71, so I preliaded it with the same 3 half turns. I don't know if tuner increased it, but I will check when I switch out my WGA. I have to finish up my fuel pump rewire and logging first. If you need to know earlier, I can check sooner.

There's the guy I was waiting for!
I went ahead and got the same WGA that you used. I hope this is it for a few years.

I actually went to your thread to see how your car performed, only to find out all the pictures are gone

Thanks for chiming in.

It will help. If I remember correctly I did 3 or 4 turns of preload.

I think you said 8 half turns on your thread IIRC
I'm glad your thread is still available
It only took me a little over a year to catch up to your post
