Total Recall Rally - 6/9 Lancer Representin' *PICS*
This past Saturday ITN Rallye Group held a 6 hour rally that went through Mojave, Lake Isabella, and some other nice spots. I was one of two Mitsubishi owners on hand. There were 25 entrants, probably 70% of which were Subaru...big suprise!
Some of the highlights from the rally: Driving along Lake Isabella to come across a flipped Saturn (couldnt get a pic off because of the police), driving 60+ MPH in the dark through farm land with cows walking on the roads, and having my navigator (this was his first rally) read the map wrong and lead us into an orchard instead of the leg's checkpoint
Overall it was a blast, and I just wish more people in Southern California on the Mitsubishi side would show up for these things, we need to be representing better
Pics:

My ride, the underdog.

Most of the competition...

People planning their routes.

The start.

Slowed down for a nice shot of Lake Isabella. This was 2 minutes before coming upon the flipped Saturn.

Nate the Navigator

This was the last standoff before we left for the last two legs of the rally.
All of the good stuff was...well....too good to be able to drive and photo at the same time. That and Nate was constantly feeding directions to me so he couldnt take many shots either. We are gonna do a couple more small rallys, and then the big one for us is on November 30th....a 14 hour rally from Santa Barbara to Las Vegas. Hope you guys enjoyed the pics...even if just a little bit

Im not sure if there are any in Nor Cal...
http://carzero.freeservers.com/ Thats the group that held Total Recall. You could probably email him and find out.
Yes...I tried to get a pic of the flipped Saturn, but there were too many cop cars around it
The one shot I have is a colored/blurred mess.
AK: Check out the webpage, and come out for the late July, or late November one man!

Rally does not equal dirt. There are just as many if not more rallies that are on road. If you look at WRC seasons there are a few that are on road, they call them tarmac rallies. Monte Carlo and Catalunya are two examples.
This is a good example:

Another well known example of an onroad rally is the Gumball 3000. Everyone knows that thing. That one, instead of being six hours across like 300 miles, is 6 days across the U.S. or Europe.

Right, they call them tarmac rallies to specify tarmac, but when only saying "rally," dirt is inferred as well as going max speed through every portion. When your thread title said "rally," I was expecting to see a full-speed dirt race. Then, I saw the first pic of your new Lancer, and I was really impressed that you were about to take that thing sideways through the dirt.
That vid you linked shows dirt and tarmac with roads blocked off and the competitors going mach speed. Is that what you guys were doing?

I hear ya man. Yeah next time I will make sure to put a disclaimer in the title that it was tarmac, you are right most people automatically associate rally with off road. We werent going mach speeds no, or at least my car wasnt, I cant speak for the other guys. Basically its more of the navigation side of things though they map these things out on deserted roads mostly. Usually you take highways in and out of areas where you see like 2 or 3 cars an hour, but the roads are still open to public traffic.
This exact thread? Yeah you are right, I came into motorsports to talk about the rally and post pics and what the general experience is about, inviting others to try it, and then in the Lancer thread posted about how I had did the rally and how the car handled for being a Lancer, and how I had new respect for my Lancer that I thought other Lancer owners might want to hear about so that maybe they would go try something new with their Lancer. Next time if I have two thoughts relating to one large subject, I will just save them for one thread
