haven't been checking on the boards in a while. this is insane. I had no idea evo's were being stolen at such a high rate in the chicago area. especially for the ones on here. sorry to here about your car man. i hope you were insured. at this point after reading this thread im pretty freaked out about leaving my car anywhere.

btw I guess I should start getting to know the guys on here. I've just really only been using this site to get information about certain problems i've dealt with since buying my IX. but incase of situation like this goes down its good to know someones looking out for the evos.

I just had an alarm installed on my evo 9 MR, added remote start and my installer said I didn't have a chipped key on it. So the remote start function was simple. Weird to hear, because I thought my 03 did have a chip, and couldn't get the remote start to work unless I got a 2nd key.. Are they just using shaved keys on our cars??!

Possible that English racing (Not to start any wars just looking for information) disables the ecu imobilizer on their tunes??

Damn that sucks, but after seeing how your car looks. I can see why people would want to steal your car.

Hope you get it back bro.

That is exactly how they are getting the cars. Swapping in an ECU with an immobilizer disabled on it is actually an incredibly quick and easy process. After that all they need is a shaved key or a set of jiggler keys that anyone can buy online.

Secure your ECU so that it can't be unplugged and get a fuel cut off switch and they shouldn't be able to start it. However, they are pushing the car some distance before doing anything. A few of the cases here, the cars had modified exhausts, so they would have been heard if they were started in their garage or driveway.

Everyone needs to at least get a camera on their car so we can catch these lowlifes.

Sorry to hear about your car man! You parked in front of me that night on Archer by Phoenix. Wish it wasn't dark when I came out, or else I'd have snapped a pic of the dual WW's.

For anyone looking for a good ant-theft device check out Ravelco. I know it keeps my stress level down.
