Windshield Repair

We were cruising along in the wifes car the other day and caught a huge rock in the windshield. The chip is deep enough you can shave a fingernail on it, so I am looking for local advice for a mobile repair company to come out and fix it up. I want to get this taken care of before it runs...

So does anyone have any good/bad experience locally?

I used Frisco Auto Glass (or something like that). He came to my office and fixed the chip.

my experience with the rock chip fixing is that its expensive for essentially nothing. i had a chip fixed, it cost 100 dollars (although i think insurance can cover it in some cases), and i could still see the chip. they said thats how it works, but it wont expand (and it never did). a completely new windshield was only 180 installed the first time i had to do it, so thats the route i would go if the chip is in your field of view.

Sometimes insurance companies offer free chip repair, might be worth calling your agent to ask.

i agree with both kevin and kracka. It usually is free to fill in the chip. most car washes have guys looking for chips so they can fill it right there on the spot. they just make a quick call to your insurance to get payment. its all done while they are drying off your car so no extra time needed.
but the crack/chip will still be visible and depending on the spot will bother you.

i had my windshield replaced for 120$. guy came to my house and swapped it in like 30-45 min. thats the best choice IMHO

Wow, $120 is a great price!

I've used Safelite on both of my cars, they do a really good job and will stand behind their work. I think I paid $180 for the Lancer windshield.

One thing to keep in mind when replacing Evo glass is that it's thinner/lighter than Lancer glass, but generally more expensive. Lancer glass fits if you want to save the cash and don't care about a few extra lbs. (I believe the windshield is about 3 lbs. difference).

Above is for the 8/9, not sure about the X.

i compared the weight of the original 8 glass vs the lancer replacemnt glass i got. it was less then a pound difference. not worth the 500 dollar difference IMO and i'm a total weight freak
