Ive bought an Evo 8 a while ago and got super help from in here so im gonna try my luck again.
The Evo 8 i have bought was tuned earlier on in its life and has now been build back to stock when i bought it, after that i have added fuel injectors, fuel pump, full exhaust and a few other things (running 1.5 bar E85)
My question is that when i remove the oil cap i can see the cam bolts arent stock, i think.
Could it be that my motor is built?, is there any other way i can find out than removing the oil pan and check under the motor?
Im thinking of doing a oil change soon so might as well do it now and make sure before i upgrade the turbo etc.
Those bolts look stock to me What makes you think they aren't? But even if the motor was build I dont know of anyone replacing those bolts with ARP's or something like that...so those being stock doesnt mean anything TBH.
As far as figuring out what you have for internals, I think your best bet is to pop off the oil pan. Thats the least intrusive method for sure. Your only other option that I can think of is to pull a spark plug and get a cam down in there to look at the piston tops. Not sure youll be able to see much though without pulling the head.
From what i know is that the normal cam bolts they use on evo are the same as in the attached photo not the normal 6 endges bolt, i might be wrong though.
Would be nice to know though how the OEM cam bolts look like if im wrong.
This evo still has a lot of defi sensors attached to its pipes ect, water temp, oil temp, exhaust temp and so on, so i was hoping for it to be an built motor, might just not be that lucky.
I will change oil this weekend and have a look from under the oil pan and check if its stock internals or not.
The bolts in the diagram you just posted are the head bolts not the cam cap bolts. The cam cap bolts in your picture are stock from the looks of it. Find a cam install guide and you'll see for yourself.
