Hello,
This is my first post to this forum. I will try and be brief.
I need to replace a headlight on my 2018 sport es. Because I have to do that I want to install foglamps.
I bought a replacement headlight assembly "identical to OEM". I bought an aftermarket fog lamp kit which includes lamps, aftermarket harness and independent switch/relay/fuse.
I have a switch on the column's selector lever for foglamps I would prefer to use since it would be tied into HI/LO beams. I have copper connectors in the fuse/relay box under the hood where the foglamps relay and fuse would go. I have not disassembled bumper plastic yet to know if there is a sub harness between the fog lamp areas. Do I for sure need to have ETACS reprogrammed to enable foglamps? The dealer had to diagnose an unrelated electronic issue a few months ago and charged me 189.00 and it took them 20 minutes. I would prefer not to do that again for a simple mod in the ETACS and would love to know possible avenues to pursue to avoid that type of additional cost. If reprogramming is indeed required, I may have no other real choice but to use the aftermarket stuff.
I def. intend to do so. I was looking at ways to tie into the High Beam power to trip a normally open relay so the power to the lamps go out while high beams are on. That seams pretty straight forward though probably or possibly janky. I know it can be done. That is if it doesn't just magically work. I have a buddy who has a base 2019 and his had both the harness and the lights he installed just worked...no programming necessary...
Just to update you all. AND possibly get this procedure listed on the outlander series(2018) pages for interested parties doing similar upgrades. There is a procedure to enable the foglamp switch(on column) feature without actually reprogramming the ETACS. It sounds goofy, but involves getting in, buckling your seatbelt, and turning on the car(not starting) then opening and closing door so many times then pressing buttons. Attached is the pics. Someone on the fb outlander sport forum pointed me to it. Yes it is for the Mirage, but it works on 2015 and 2018 sports, probably many others too.
I was beside myself when it worked. I felt rather sure someone was just having a go at making fun of us...or me. BUT I have fog lamps using an aftermarket kit that I tied to the harness connector near the horn under the bumper. Worked really well...still can't believe it. I then had to add a relay in the position for fog lamps in relay box, got it for 8 bucks from the store...worked perfect.
