Karma?

I don't know...has this site ever tried a karma system? If not, and if anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, it's a system that you can upload into the site software that allows members to give positive feedback for people who have helped them. I know that a TON of people have helped me on here, and I wish that I could give them "karma points" for the help they've given me. Just an idea, I guess. I do know that a lot of sites don't use it because people abuse it or give negative feedback for no reason, or even positive feedback for no reason...but if used correctly it's kind of a cool feature because you can see who's really helpful and who is a jackass

Sounds like a good idea. Do you know of a few example sites that use it properly?

www.mx6.com has a nice karma setup...it gives you green "jewels" above your avatar area for helping out. Like the first jewel is for 1-5 positive remarks, the next for 5-15, etc...and it doesn't show the public the actual number, but rather remarks like "____ is on a distinguished road" or "____ is very helpful", etc. You can't give karma to the same person unless you have spread it around to other people, too...this protects against one person constantly giving another one good or bad karma. Also, in your user CP you can read if people wrote you comments when they gave you feedback.

two forums which i use a lot

www.rapworlds.com

and

www.djforum.com

both use a karma system. personally it doesnt really matter to me but i still think it would be a nice feature, particullarly on a car forum.

it does sound interesting....there are a lot of people that consistanly go out of their way to throw out useful information and I think something like this would be good to recognize that. I know we have a few members of the guru status because their knowledge tends to surpass what any of us know. But a system like this would allow the average joe to get his kudos for lending a helping hand.

That comes standard on all Vbulletin boards if I'm not mistaken (entitled 'User Reputation'). I already can see this system succumbing to abuse. It'll be merely another tool to outwit each other, same applies to your member status/user title, post count, etc... I can see in some instances where altercations WILL occur due to who or what member has the bigger reputation.

Now, what if someone wants to be a dick and get even? They give you a lower score, thus affecting your overall rank. Now you're going to come to us to complain about the disgruntled feedback that particular member gave you. We have no time for that. Theres always a downside, which frequently seems to be overlooked.

So don't tell me, "Sounds like a good idea", "agreed, much", before you even thoroughly analyze the issue, both positive and negative.

Eh, doesn't matter to me. Good to give recognition to the people that make a difference, and a great reason for whiny post wh0res to start new threads complaining about something.

on this topic i feel that it

"Sounds like a good idea", "agreed, much",
lol just playin. but other forums use them and dont seem to have a huge problem with them so i dont see why evom would. in fact that rapworlds.com im usually in would probably experience more problems than we ever would and they still do it. saying you dont wanna have another aspect to consider just makes you sound lazy.

No, considering an "aspect" that would cause more problems in the long run for the staff (as well as the site) shouldn't be overlooked. I just see this as another distraction. From a member's point of view, this can be a "cool" option to use, but quite the opposite for the staff as we'll be managing this "aspect" in the end with all the member-related problems that come along with it.

rapworlds. I doubt that their user rep system is one-hundred percent free of member-related problems.

actually its probably like 99% problems but i just think if they can have it with out any serious problems arrising from it then we should be able to handle it.

besides since when does your oppinion count. just because you have about 7,500 more posts and are an administrator. oh wait actually that does matter. never mind i'll shut up now.

and to be honest i wouldn't like it because as cool as it would be to have i probably would never get a single plus in my karma.

Nice system for small boards. Royal ***** when you're on a big board and 40 people send you a PM asking you to fix their stupid feedback every day on top of regular moding.
