Every day at 9pm PST the server runs an automated backup script which slows the site to a crawl. normally it takes about 15-20 minutes for it to finish and the site is back to normal again. Ask Mark.

He's right. That's how the forum scripts work (if set up correctly). There are scripts within the forum which basically take all the posts, pics, etc and put them in a database (or maybe just update an existing database).
May I suggest changing the time of these backups to another time, say 3AM PST (since that would also be 6 AM EST) and I'd think that around that time there are quite less users on the site than at 9PM PST.

Yea, the site has been moving reeeaaaally slow lately, sometimes not coming up at all. And that is from four different computers, two Cable internet connects, one wireless, and one T3. No other sites were affected at the time, it is this site, sorry.

Could have beed network issues at the time. The backups are running in the AM at this time so that should be an issue. The server itself seems to be just fine, but I can try to inquire about the network just to see what else might be causing the issue. We did have a few attacks a recently and that did slow the server. The firewall should be setup to block those attacks at this time though.
