What are the guidelines for a group buy?

From the way I understand things a group buy should be like this:

5 buyers= a certain price
10 buyers=lower price
15 buyers=even lower price
etc.

recently there have been vendors advertising group buys but when you click on the thread the vendor proceeds to say "pm for price". To me that's not a group buy but a regular for sale thread. I'm sure it's just a misuse of terms by the vendors but I wanted to ask the people in the know. So what's the deal?

ps-can a mod/admin flip "the" and "are" in the title, thanks.

We are reviewing the group buys. Thanks.

Anything? after 40 minutes? The moderator staff is all voluntary and scattered across the US and Canada. I think your expectations for immediate 24/7 response is a bit high.

40 mins, 12 hours, who's counting.

Just as a little background, we've had it where regular members used to be able to arrange group buys through the forums. (I organized a couple, 3-4 years back.) After more than a couple problems with non-payment and lost or undelivered merchandise, as well as the changes to our marketplace rules, the group buys have been an issue that's slightly difficult to address. Personally, I'd recommend having a reputable forum vendor do the group buy with your assistance (if needed). This way transactions are not in question, and there is a much smaller likelyhood of someone getting screwed.

Now, if you do a GB through a vendor, this whole thing is a non-issue. They will set up the pricing details, they will handle the money and they will handle the shipping.

But if you were planning on doing the GB with yourself as the representative, I think that's where we run into problems. Nothing personal of course, but we intentionally regulate sales through the forums, and as of right now we don't make allowances for this. An Admin will ultimately have to give the green light for a GB done in this fashion. I'd really recommend having a willing vendor take care of everything. Their pricing is their business, and the rest is just a boost in sales for them.

You're missing my point. I have no interest in doing a GB. I was curious as to what the rules were for vendors. As I said a group buy should have a price posted in the thread, not "pm for price", see what I'm saying?

I'd be lying if I said I read your post. Seriously, sorry about that. I don't think vendors are under any obligation to run their GB a particular way, but I understand your concern (now that I've read the OP). Like Speedlimit said though, GBs are under review.

And while we are at it why don't vendors list prices in for sale threads? I think that's a little weak as well. Just list the price so we don't have to play the pm game.

it's not necessarily a game

sometimes their prices are below what a company allows them to sell their products for

therefore they are obligated to no post the price
