IE and Operation Aborted Error Messages

Hey Everyone,

I think I found a couple of reasons why everyone using IE 6+ is getting the "operation aborted" messages. It looks like IE has some significant issues with certain site functions. I talked with other forum admins and they have experienced similar error messages on their forum with users using IE. So basically what we need to do is try different things to narrow down the issue.

One reason had to do with the "Quick Reply" box located at the bottom of each thread. There are embedded controls within that box that causes some glitches with IE. For some reason I can't reproduce the error on my version of IE (IE 7). What I did was I disabled the embedded controls to see if that solves the issue. If anyone experiencing the error message now should let me know. I need to know the url you were accessing when you got the error message and a copy of the message.

Now the last reason has to do with IE itself. From my understanding IE has a tendency to corrupt its functions. Meaning if you have java runtime installed, ad blcoking, etc, sometimes IE will take those features out causing site viewing glitches.

This type of problem is difficult to diagnose because not everyone is experiencing this. The more info I can get from you, the easier it will be for me to solve it.

I have IE 7 and I occasionally get the operation aborted error.
Please let me know if you find a fix.

Thanks,

Tim

I used to only get the errors in my IE 7. On IE 6 I haven't had the issue yet. For some reason if I'm jumping around different threads 1 out of 6 I get the error. I hit the back button and then it loads and works fine. Also, I noticed it allows a photo, if it's being download to finish, before I get the page could not be displayed error after hitting okay to the operation aborted. I have all Microsoft updates on my machine and I can't understand why either. I noticed it only happens on EVOm, but then I only thought it was my computer.

There are still errors. I get them pretty frequently. I use IE7. I took a look at the page source and since you are using AJAX coding techniques, try looking at the error handling for your XML requests and make sure that you are not getting hung up by some slow XML request inside AJAX.

See that's just it, the coding for the Ajax functions are fine for all browsers. The code was debugged and tested. There's something going with on each individual version of IE that is causing problems for some and not for others, which is not surprising. It could be something corrupted somewhere or just certain settings that don't mesh. For example, I have 3 machines all setup with different versions of IE on a different network. For some reason I don't get errors with any of those versions. I also have other test machines on other networks and still nothing.

I disabled some of the ajax functions. Let me know if that did anything.

The problem is I can't reproduce the same error you are getting, so when I go to that link it works fine for me. Screen shots are what I need.

Also I would like the people that are getting errors to go to our other network sites to see if you are getting the same thing (if you have the time and don't mind).

Please test the following sites:

www.club240.com

www.i-club.com

Also another thing I'm seeing that is common with the error messages that most of it is happening when users are reading through a thread and very rarely in other sections (main forum listing, thread listings, etc.). So when you are testing, please make to state where you were specifically so we can narrow down the location.
