Need some help

I got a pm stating I got a infraction. I tried to pm the moderator that gave it to me. It has been two days and I have received no response. So I was wondering how I can get an explanation for this.

Here is what happened. I always search for sale ads every sunday. If I found a good deal I will post up the link to the ad so people can take advantage of it. I then get the infration for spam. I would not consider this spam as it was a link directly from circuit city to where anyone could order it or get it. I figure everyone has electronics so why not post up a good deal.

A guy then came in and said that office depot had them on sale for 30.00 last week.

I responded by saying I doubt it and then my post was closed and I got the infraction.

Thanks.

vendors pay to advetise here, what you are doing is against the sites policies, if you read them you would already know the answer to your question grasshopper.

If that is the case what is the difference between someone posting up a link to something they find for our cars that is cheap? Also I do not see any audio, video, or electronic vendors on the site.

I was not the one that gave you the infraction, however I would have assumened you were a spammer as well. You post looked exactly like another other spam link we get often.

I can put the infraction uo for review, but despite your intentions, you are better off not making posts like that as they just resemble spam too much

Had that person clicked on the link it takes you directly to circuit citys website. How is that spam as circuit city is a legit store all over the country? If this is the case how do you post up good deals you may find? If this had been someone with a high post count would it had happend to them. Did this happen to me just becuase of my low post count. Had that person gone through my other post you could clearly see I am not a spammer.

Start a thread called "Sunday's good deals" in OT and add to it each week or whenever.

As is, the thread title and post appear to be straight up spam.

So by putting the exact item I found and a link to circuit city that makes it spam. My assumption is they saw the title and link and assumed right away it was spam w/o doing any further investigation.

Its generally a bad idea to click on links that look like spam. Spammers are very clever sometimes and I never click on spam links. We make decisions to the best of our available knowledge. You appear not to be a spammer, but you post looked dead on like spam. The suggestion of a new OT sunday deals thread is a decent one. I worry that spammers or advertisers will post in there, but we can come to that when it happens

On you other comment about their being no electronics vendors, thats because we wont sign them. Relevant automotive businesses only

I didn't say it was spam. I said it looked like spam. I don't "investigate" spam links because I don't want to contribute to the business of spam/spam bots.

Personally I don't think the 5 points should stick. There's no malicious intent, it was just a mistake, IMO. But that's not really my decision to make.

I didn't look at it close. I saw spam, gave the infraction, and trashed the thread.

Looked just like the hundreds of spam bot posts I have trashed in the past.

I am sure it was due to my low post count. Can that infraction be removed?

and the fact that any site you click on from a URL can bring you to an identical phishing site that the everyday user can't catch. even experienced people have trouble identifying these sites sometimes, due to the complexity of today's URLs. the proper course of action is to not click on links, and type all urls for any site you intend on sending personal information to in manually, no matter who sent the link it could always be malicious.

even if I saw a link posted from a member with 8000 posts I wouldn't click on it to send them my CC information, I have ten fingers that can type just as well as click. It's the only 100% sure way to make sure you end up where you are supposed to, and even sometimes that won't be enough.

+1 to security measures

It was not a link to send your CC information. It was a link showing a product for a good price. Once they found it they could have gone to the website themselves and searched for the same product and found the same thing.

you don't know about phishing sites then, do you. That was precisely my point.

for your reference, mr. n00b who can't search j/khttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing
