Delete New threads (maybe including this one)

Ok so, I know this has been covered in some context but not sure to what extent and I am not going to waste an hour or more of my time searching through 129 results to find the one (or none) thread that has any substance related to what I'm looking for.

So here's the suggestion. Instead of simply replying to a thread saying "Search" and closing the thread, why not delete it? A question gets asked with no answer and the thread gets closed and then just sits there. Then when you search that topic it's just one more thread that pops up with absolutely nothing helpful. So I say delete the thread and maybe PM the original poster with a message that says "Search." Just a suggestion to maybe clear out some of the useless garbage and actually make the "Search" function a little more...functional.

Another posibility (not sure what the site is capable of). Is there any way to track how often a given thread is accessed or viewed. How about if a thread hasn't been viewed at all (or maybe less than five times or something like that) over the course of a month (or three months or whatever) than it gets deleted.

Like I said before, I'm sure this has been covered so I'm curious to see if this will just get a response of "Search" and the thread will be closed.

Hmmm.....I have no problem deleting (trashing) threads such as the ones you mention. More often than not, I get a nasty PM from the poster asking why I deleted their great thread about what the best BOV is or a thread asking what the best first mod is. I try to merge threads such as those into one big thread (or just delete, depending on the nature of the question) so hopefully 500 returns will not be generated in a search with 480 of them useless.
As for the second part of your proposal, I don't really know if our software is capable of sorting through all of the threads.....I tend to think it would be a manual and time-intensive process. Remember, almost all of the staff are volunteers. It takes all of our time just to keep the site functioning as is.

Seriously, thanks for the feedback; you do raise some valid points. I will look into it with the rest of the staff.
