Signature Rule needs rewrite.....

***New Signature Guidelines***
________________________________________
Based upon a review of current signatures, we've decided to outline the acceptable methods for posting member signatures:
6. No commercial links of any kind or business contact information without being a vendor. This includes linking to current vendors.

Rule number 6 is deterring site growth, and decreasing business for the vendors. I understand protecting the paying vendors, but if someone has a link in their sig from a PAYING vendor then who cares! As long as they are not going around posting in the threads crap like “Come over to my house I can do that install for $XYZ”, taking business away from PAYING vendors. In my opinion, links in signatures are just like advertising by way of mouth. If I get work done by shop ABC, and the work was good, it is Absolutely RIDICULOUS that I cannot put in my sig, my mods, and a link to who did the work, like WWW.”GOODSHOP”.COM does good work I recommend! I could start a thread saying, “Got tuned by Buschur this weekend it was awesome, I recommend it”, I honestly don’t see the difference, in fact again the link in the signature is a better alternative, instead of sifting though 9million threads of “I got X done by Y shop”, there can be a little link in the sig, work done by www.”goodshop”.com.

We the readers, and the vendors built this site to what it is, rules like this seems to me, to be deterring site growth. It is less about the evo community helping either other, and more about inflicting polices against the user. The site should be looking to help the vendors, and the more links available for people to click, the better it is for the vendors and intern the better it is for the site.

Maybe I need some clarification about the intent of this rule? Is the whole problem that I cannot put the actual www.”goodshop”.com?? As I read the rule, I could put “google shop: ‘Good Shop’ they did the work”

Is it accepitble to say:
My car:
TBE
Tune
Cams
Blah blah

Work done by:
ABC
XYZ
LMN
Please google the above names. Thanks…….

Also check out “so and so” organization……

If the answer is Yes, the only difference between putting the actual link is now Google gets the hit too…

I propose this rule be rewritten to deem it appropriate to post registered EvolutionM vendor links in signatures. The goal of the site should be to retain, and obtain new vendors, and this would contribute to both, as well as help the readers find shops that are both good and in their area. It would be a win for the site, and win for the vendors, and a win for the readers.

Thanks for the time!

PM's are a better place to take care of infractions instead of in your sig tnt. That won't help anything.

That rule was made because paying vendors where giving people discounts in exchange for more advertising

you can have anyone you want in your sig, just don't link to their site.

Good use of sig example: Tuned by XXX.

Bad use of sig example: Tuned by http://XXX.tuner XXX at XXX site.

Well i just don't understand the difference between www.TunerXXX.com and just TunerXXX both are still advertising.... one just save a quick google search.......and most people are smart enough today to know the web site to TunerXX is the name with a www. and .com after.... and it makes no difference to the site if the someone clicks the link directly, Google search the name, or just add the www.XYZ.com on their own... I dont intend for the rule be rewritten to not allow shop advertisement at all, but it seems like a lot work goes in to enforcing something is a little as a few key strokes.

The rule is pretty clear and just started about 6 months ago. There was a lot of discussion about it, and I believe it's going to stay the way it is.

Interesting, I can see both sides here. I have "IVEYTUNED" in my sig. Never thought to place the link of his site in there. I figure anyone with half a brain can find it themselves.

I agree.... like i said is just a few key strokes. Im looking at it for two differant ways,

1. If Im thinking like a vendor, I want to make it as easy as possible for people to get to my site to buy my products so I figure Im paying so I can advertise AND so people can put my link in their sig, the more advertising the better.

2. As a user, it seems like a irrelevant rule, because as you said, anyone with half a brain can figure out the web site for whatever company, so why spend the effort enforcing the difference of a www. and .com........

Since you aren't a vendor, I'm going to assume you don't know the differences in the vendor packages. Some vendors pay more to advertise more on here, how would they feel, as a major contributor to the site, if someone on the lowest package offered discounts to people to put www.TunerXXX.com in their sig and bypass getting higher vendor packages?

I'm surprised you're still allowed on the site, so I wouldn't push to much... even though you did it, you should probably admit that making a youtube channel is about a childish as you can get.

Heck, the rule required me to remove a link to Don Herring Mitsubishi's site from my signature and they are an Evom gold vendor. How much higher level do you have to get?

I may have broke the rules (and got my punishment) but I didn't make anything. I have no idea who the guy is, but it was extremely funny.

d'oh. I hate that... sorry I hit edit instead of quote :/

There is Gold +1/2's and Platinum vendor packages, however the vendor packages don't pertain to who can be linked in the sig and who can't. It's a general rule that no one except vendors can link in their sigs or put commercial contact info there.

I understand and will comply. I just hate rules that make no sense. This is one of them in my opinion. Evom members can't promote Evom vendors.
